Hi there! I was banded one day before you :)

I too feel pretty good, except for some discomfort around the port area. But I'm only taking the pain meds in the morning and at bedtime now. I'm no longer waking up in the middle of the night in pain, so that must be good! Clear liquid diet is rough, but I'm doing it. Still havng gas pains. Sometimes I wonder if I made the right decision in this whole thing, but then I tell myself it's too early to tell.

Anyway grats to us!! I'll be thinking of ya :)

Wow, all of you guys are doing really good. I had my surgery in Toronto, Canada on Feb 2nd and I am down 21 pounds. I go for my first fill in 2 weeks and I am looking forward to it because I am at a plateau. I wish I would have done this years ago. Anyway, best of luck to everyone!!!!

It's great to hear everyone is doing well. I have my surgery on this Thursday the 8th. I have been on my doctor's clear liquid diet for eight days now. Lost 15 pounds so far just from that, but I know I would gain it back immediately if I started eating again, which is why I am getting the band. Hearing stories such as these gives me hope.

Thanks

Keith

Hello everyone,

My date has been postponed twice and I am praying that my date will be the 20th, just have to get clearance from my primary dr. They had found 2 spots on my right lung - my brother is a dr. and wanted me to have a petscan (that's a catscan with radioactive material injected in you) to make sure it wasn't cancerous - my pulmonary dr. is not concerned and has given me the go ahead. My surgeon, Dr. Nussbaum in NJ scheduled me for March 20th, so pray for me please that this date is the final date - I was supposed to have the surgery in January. I think I must have gained about 20lbs since then, eating as if each day was my "last supper". My dr. didn't give me a preop diet, but I'm going to start with the Protein drinks on my own to get me started so I won't have any carb withdrawals after surgery. Good luck to everyone who is going in for their surgery and I'll be in touch once I have mine.

Reesh:clap2:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
