I can't live without diet soda and my surgeon said that as long as I can tolerate the carbonation it is fine. He said there is no data that links it to the expansion or stretching of the newly formed stomach.

No soda since surgery, June 3rd. I had a sip the other day, Yuck!!! I used to be a Diet Coke addict. I don't want to go back to bad habits!

I haven't had any since July 4th and I was ok for the most part. I have been seriously craving it the past 2 weeks and I really need to get it out of my head. I have no problems with sugar or sweets so I'm sure my sleeve will be totally fine with soda, too... unfortunately.

I drink soda. ..sips at a time. . It now takes me a week to drink 20oz. of soda. ..I was sleeved on 07/31/13 and lost 105lbs. ..so apparently it does not stretch your sleeve. Good luck.

My doctor said soda was fine after six weeks but may make some sleevers uncomfortable so if it makes you uncomfortable, then avoid it... otherwise, it's no worse for you than it was pre-sleeve. Sounded like good advice.

I love soda. When I'm at family gatherings, I will drink a glass or two of diet soda and it helps keep me from grazing on chips. Also I enjoy a 20 ounce diet gingerale a few times a month. I don't believe that soda is a great choice for regular consumption, sleeve or no sleeve, but it's not the devil either. It is not a trigger food for me, it's fine with my doctor and I really enjoy it.

Also, I work hard to sip and ENJOY my soda but again, it has nothing to do with being sleeved, I just like to make it last. It does not hurt my tummy in the slightest.. I could guzzle it if I wanted to.

My mom drank soda a lot post op and gained back half of the weight she lost. Just be careful soda can be a slippery slope.

I am a truck driver. ..I run team with my husband. ..our truck runs 24 hours a day 7 days a week. ..we live in our truck . .so my eating habits vary. . I stick to the 4 oz rule.. my meals are protein/vegetable. . My exercise is walking, getting in and out of truck or trailer. Resistance bands, and a bike. If I want something I eat it, but limit the amount I eat. Its hard. .because you see so many billboards with food. Luckly, I don't desire the foods I used to abuse. We do cook in our truck, so meals can be healthy. ...

I do not eat breads and limit Pasta. . If I do want bread, I stick to whole wheat tortillas and flat bread. .but that is only about once a week. .

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
