Welcome Mary. I was banded on February 12 and I am doing pretty well. I started whole foods just this morning. I started with a small bowl of Kashi with Soy Milk. When do you think that you will be getting your band? It is such an exciting experience. Good luck and welcome to LapBand talk.

Mary, I was banded on 1/30/07 and I feel great! I have lost 30lbs and am eating mushies at the current time. I am going to the gym and am able to do 45" on the eliptical. I am so glad that I have my band. Feel free to ask me any other questions you may have-Gigi

I've gone out to dinner a few times and that was hard because I was on full liquids at the time, but it really wasn't bad because I am overall not hungry. My whole family went out for chinese food over the weekend for my dad's birthday. I know that I could have had alot of things that were classified as "mushies", but I only had the broth from the wonton Soup and about 1 oz of chicken from my son's chix and broccoli (the chix was soft, but the broccoli was hard). That was all I had and I felt satisfied. Before getting banded, I would never only eat that much. I think that the hardest part for me is the weight loss. I feel that the weight should be slipping right off me considering the amount of food I am eating and the exercise I am doing. Don't get me wrong, I am glad I lost 30lbs,but I lost 14 before surgery. I guess that my body has to catch up with my new way of eating. I have never been sick except right after surgery, I had awful gas pains, which were releived with the hot pad, gasx, and walking. I have been lucky, but I also feel that my doctor takes 6 full weeks before he allows his patients to eat solids. Every doctor is different though. It seems that mine is on the cautious side. Gigi

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
