Hi there. I did yoga 70 lbs ago and it was a little tough. Probably because I was not very flexible. I am 3 weeks post op. already walking several times a week. I would love to do Yoga sometime in there near future

Has anyone done yoga weighing over 200 pounds?

Any recommendations as to what to do to get prepared? Thank you!!!!

I started doing yoga at 4 weeks post surgery and about 250 pounds and did just fine. Had to modify occasionally but really had no problems with it.

I did take regular yoga (regular as opposed to hot yoga) and I was over 200. I found it very difficult because I couldnt hold myself up for one and second, I wasnt doing the breathing properly because in a lot of the poses I was squishing my diaphragm. But what I was able to do I found beneficial. I still felt great the next day, my hips were open and my back felt more aligned. So because I know I loved it when I was heavier, I started going again once I was healed but I started taking hot yoga (bikram yoga in a room heated to about 100 - 105 degrees). Now Im addicted.

What helped me most when I was heavier and just starting yoga was using the blocks and straps. Once you keep dropping pounds and become more flexible you wont need them as often. I still use them to this day sometimes. Good luck to you.

I've wanted to do yoga so many times. I have extensive wrist problems, though, so I've always been afraid to try it, especially being heavy. I'd love to hear more if/when you decide to try it!

Thank you so much for the stories. I am in encourage. I think I will build up endurance by walking as I have been doing. Weight training in 2 weeks. Then start yoga. I did the hit yoga too and I loved it. The heat made my body so much more supple and flexible.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
