FEB (BCBS Federal) plastic surgery

Just thought I would share - was speaking to BCBS's insurance person about my upcoming surgery and a couple other non related things. He seemed really knowledgable and was researching things before giving me answers. So I asked him if having plastic surgery was an option if a doc said it was medically necessary. I have read through my benefits book from them and it clearly states plastics isn't covered. But the insurance guy told me he has seen it approved several times as long as it's deemed medically necessary by a doctor, particularly in cases of extreme weight loss. This gave me a little hope that i might not have to pay for this out of pocket.

Good info to have. Did he happen to mention if your primary can deem it necessary or if it has to be a specialist like a dermatologist?

Fantastic news. I too have FEB, was wondering if the necessity would work.
