so happy that i'm finally posting in the post-op section :)

question for everyone - some people at work know that i had this surgery but most don't. i don't necessarily want to tell people that i had the surgery as i know opinions will differ but i know some people will ask where i was the past two weeks. has anyone else been in a similar situation? what did you tell co-workers?

I work at the hospital I am having my surgery at. Since one of my coworkers work in the wls dept she knew. Although due to HIPPA she couldn't say anything to others, I figured everyone would figure it out, so I told most of my coworkers. They have been super supportive. In fact I told my coworkers before I told most of my friends. I waited till the surgery was scheduled to tell everyone. I've heard some people say they were out for gallbladder surgery. It's a fib but it prevents from you having to tell your business if you're not wanting to.

I had my gallbladder out........yes, that is the fib I told. If/when I do actually need it out I will use the "gall stones in the bile ducts" excuse. My cousin gave me that idea. Her surgery was two years ago and only a select few family members know.

I have been pretty open about it, and I wasn't planning to initially. It has definitely been easier not to have to hide anything. I tell them I'm having surgery if it comes up, and go into more detail if they ask 'what kind?' I am really comfortable with this decision, and am more sure about it the closer it gets. I just find it too complicated and more stressful to feel like I have to hide something very real going on in my life. It's something you have to decide for yourself.

I have been completely open since my surgery, I was scared but everyone has been so supportive and full of encouragement. I'm glad I did. My co workers barrage me with questions, I've had finds private message me and ask about the surgery. I think if you didn't have support this would be so much harder. But this is a decision only you can make. Good luck with it.

I chose not to tell most coworkers. I said I was on vacation. If they asked more than that, i said something vague and then asked them something about themselves :) people love to talk about themselves, so it was an easy way to take attention off me! And because I see them evry day, and people are only just now noticing weight loss, so it is doubtful they will connect my weight loss with the vacay i took in May!

My primary care physician suggested that I have wls due to my comorbidities. That's exactly what I'm going to tell people. How can they argue with me taking the advice of my physician?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
