SleeverCRNA 17 Posted October 22, 2013 (edited) I'm new here, but decided to get plugged in because I scheduled my VSG TODAY for 11/6/3! I was so excited when I got the call from the surgeon's office that my insurance had faxed approval! I hadn't even gotten a letter in the mail, and they just submitted everything last week! No complaints here! I was a little nervous to tell my employers that I would be out, but they took it very well! I did not tell them what surgery I was having. Just that it was a laparoscopic procedure and that I would need 2-3 weeks off (my job is quite physical). So a little about me... I'm 29, married to a very sweet, supportive man, and we have a sweet dog named Charlie. I have always struggled with my weight. I have worked hard to reach my professional goals, and now I want to reach my personal goals. I think the VSG is just the tool I need to help me be the healthiest me I can be! My husband and I tried getting pregnant for more than a year, and we ended up seeing a fertility specialist. There were no major issues with either of us, but my cycles we very irregular. He told my my PCOS could definitely be secondary to my obesity. Both of my parents have had great success with gastric bypass surgery, but I never really considered it for myself until after 3 months of fertility treatment with no success. I have tried many diet/exercise programs in the past, but I have never been able to keep the weight off...in fact I would always gain the weight back and then some! I was tired of the cycle! I was tired of not feeling healthy or pretty. I am ready for a life change, and I am ready to work for it! Look forward to getting to know all of you better! Thanks for reading! noamy4life 3 Posted October 24, 2013 Welcome!! I'm fairly new on here as well. Today I got the call to get schedule for my surgery. I'm confirming tomorrow after I speak with my boss to see if I can take 3 to 4 weeks off. If she agrees I will be scheduled 11/15. I've learned learned lots from here from find everyone's experience, advise and questions to be so helpful, supportive and validating everything I'm going through. Today I find your new post and feeling like everything from my consultation to waiting I did get approved my insurance to seeing the Psye dr all just went smooth but wasn't expecting to get my surgery schedule date call today. I'm going to be 47 on 11/4, I'm 5'7 and currently weighing 266, wearing a tight size 18. My goal is to get to 165 or 170. I have 2 son's age 18 and 22. I feel it's my time now to focus in me and my health. I kept thinking if it's not meant to be, something will get in the way or not clear my medical needs. I'm have diabetes, high blood pressure, bad cholesterol, also just started seeing new dr for possible a thyroid issue. My new Endricologist who is simply not supportive for my surgery didn't help by telling me why would I want this surgery when I asked her what her opinion was. I also have 4 bulging disc and recovering from a knee arthroscopy. So not physically active is not helping but causing me to gain more weight. I can't afford to gain more since it puts more strain on my injuries. My Prmary dr and orthopedic are supportive of me getting my surgery. I would think the Endricologist would of been too, I would think if it helps to take away diabetes and hbp, why not. My friends tell me, maybe she's being selfish and wants to keep me for her business only. I'm pursuing my surgery to gain a healthier life and hopefully get rid of all meds and conditions My biggest fear which is going to sound dumb, is not surgery but losing my hair and thoughts that run through my mind, like what if I'm eating something and food gets stuck in my esophagus. I won't be able to drink Water like now to help digest it or soda for a burp. LOL!! In case you didn't see it, there is also a post on here for all the November's to post your surgery day, which I will once I confirm. Thought to mention so we can all keep each comfort and be there for one another for support. I also need to learn how to inbox or add ppl. I'd like to stay in touch also. Best wishes to us all in this new healthier lifestyle journey. I'm excited but yet so nervous now! It's all surreal! Yes that is very strange that your endocrinologist isn't supportive of the surgery. Did she say why? Yes, let's keep in touch!
SassyOne 6 Posted October 24, 2013 I had my surgery ten months ago, and it was the best thing I have ever done for myself. I had always struggled with my weight and was really not even sure that VSG would work for me, but I knew I had to do something. At 5' 7 my highest weight was 298lbs, on the day of my surgery I was 270lbs. After 10 months I now weigh 177lbs and I feel fantastic, I hope by my one year anniversary to lose my last 16lbs to my goal weight. This surgery can help you reach your goal, its a wonderful tool if you follow all your post op directions. Good luck! 1 SleeverCRNA reacted to this
