Had my sleeve October 18 and I'm having trouble getting in liquids and Protein. After drinking about 4 oz of a Premier Protein shake today I felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest, then after about 20-30 minutes I began spitting up about 4 ounces thick foamy liquid. So I went for a 15 minute walk and then inside to rest. It's been about 3 hours so I decided to try some refried Beans about 1 oz. over the course of 15-18 minutes. No I feel like it's just sitting in my esophagus and now I'm starting the spitting up foamy thick liquid again. Any advise would be great! I called my doc and they said to slow down and keep trying to get my fluids and protein in.

Try getting a Protein Powder and mixing it with milk. I do a scoop with 4oz of skim milk. That's about all I can hold. As far as the foam goes, maybe it's from over eating. I'm on soft foods and I have trouble with chicken. Last time I ate it, I threw up ( first time ever) and it was white foam.

It sounds like you might still have swelling, which is constricting your stomach passage. Maybe you need to back off a little, thin down your shakes and/or start with 2 oz at a time. My practice doesn't advance us to the puree stuff tilI day 10-14 and at that point the most I could take in of anything was 3 oz. Everybody heals at a different rate, so you have to advance at a pace that suits your body.

SIp, sip, sip and absolutely slow down. Stick with liquids for now. Wait until you have the feeling it has entering your pouch to take another sip. You might end up taking hours to finish one Protein Shake, but it's better than having it come back up.

Hi, I had my sleeve surgey on sept. 25, and by oct. 2, I was experiencing the same thing. I had the feeling I wanted to throw up after anything I took in. I call my doctor and was admitted into the hospital on the 4 of october. I stayed until the 18 of october because I could not keep anything down, my stomach was so swollen that nothing could pass through not even Water. Eventuallt after being three week out my doctor decided to dilate my stomach just a little to help things pass through. I have been home for 5 days and everything seems to be good. I am on Clear Liquids, and they are going down much easier. We have to remember we all heal differently and we have to listen to our body. It may be a good ideas to contact your doctor again and have him do another upper gi to see if everything is passing through ok. You don't want to dehydrate from the lost of fluids. Good luck to you

4 days post op and you are eating refried Beans? That's probably not going to go down yet as there is probably still swelling. Also, you may be drinking too fast. At four days out it would have taken me 1-2 hrs to get down 4 ozs. Slow down and back off progressing until things get easier. Call your surgeon if it doesn't get easier each day.

One possibility is that there are air bubbles in it that are too much for you to tolerate right now. Pre op I made mine in the blender, but I haven't tried that yet because of all the air that will get mixed into it.

PS I puked foam today too, and it freaked me out. I had 3 bites of well chewed lean beef hot dog frank, and I was a mess for about 30 minutes. I don't know what all the foam was about.

Jinxxy's right. You're probably eating/drinking too much too fast. I'm over 2 weeks out and still on liquids. Lay off the beans!

You're having the slimes! It comes from Eating too fast, or too much. Listen to your belly. It was trying to tell you the first time. 4 ounces is about right. But you have got to wait until your belly is empty before eating or drinking again. You're trying to rush it. Been there, done that got the t-shirt one too many times. You'll get the hang of it!

Refried Beans are on my modified liquids list, but I'm not eating them again for a long time, if ever. I think I'm just drinking and eating to fast because I'm trying to get everything in. Thank you all so much for responding!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
