Soooo glad you posted! I had my VSG 9/11/13 and am 57. It is great to hear that you have lost weight and maintained a healthy lifestyle for 5 years and started at the age of 63! One concern I have had is that weight loss slows with age' date=' but I am happy to lose slowly but steadily! Do you mind my asking how your body has adapted over the five years, specifically if your skin has tightened up and weight redistributed? I am thinking that I may have plastic surgery after I have reached goal. But wonder if I should give it a while to let my body redistribute and change.[/quote']

Hi,

I love your questions. LOL, they only place I would like to have some plastic surgery, and that has to do with age. The rest of my body is fine. I think that my walking has been great for me. Everyone will look at their own body and have to make the choice if they want plastic surgery. It took me 14 months to lose the wieght. I was just fine with it. I think that exercise has been so very helpful to me. I do NOT like running, it is too hard on your knees and hips. Walking works great for me and it is easy to do. But, everyone has to find some form of exercise that the like and will continue to do it. I am going to start doing Yoga soon too. Always feel free to contact me at my E-mail Suzannesh@aol.com with any question that you might have along your weight loss journey. I am always here for you.

Hugs,

Suzanne

So much of the stuff you have done is amzaing' date=' but this This is remarkable. Very few people are able to accomplish at this level. Congratulations on your success. Your work has really paid off. And thanks for posting this to help inspire others.[/quote']

Hi,

WOW I am remarkable. What a compliment. It just seems to be a way of life for me. I would get up take a shower and go walk. It was one of my better habits that I started. I didn't say this in my post. But, in Sept my husband and I went to New Zealand and Australia for a month to have a vacation and see some friends. We walked more over there. We walked about 5 to 6 miles a day. I told him here we are on vacation and walking more than we do when we were home. It was fun and we never felt like we walked that much. I wear a "Nike Fuelband" and that motivates me to walk. My hope is to inspire people! I want them to know that they can do this too!

Hugs,

Suzanne

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
