chicken salad

tuna salad

Salmon, grilled

hamburger patties

filet mignon

bay shrimp cocktails

and I splurged a little too....

fudgesicles

ice cream

chocolate

(about twice per week)

Limited carbs, eliminated fast food, found a tasty low-cal beverage (crystal light pink lemonande), enjoy starbucks...

Other fun Snacks for in the car or at work:

hard boiled eggs

beef Jerky

string cheese (or a chunck of cheddar)

campbells lowfat Soups (love cream of brocc... and I added asiago cheese and fresh cracked pepper)

Tried to walk the baby 3 times per week around the neighborhood...

Banded 12/27/05! I lost 85lbs at my six month mark...... I too did it following the rules, attending a support group both weekly and monthly, and my secret wepon..... the food journal! Every day I weighed myself, and measured myself once a week then I noted the foods I ate and kept to my nutritionist suggestions of 80 grams of Protein, 1400 calories and 80-100oz of non caff drinks. It took me a long time to get my big old but in gear to exercise but once I started... I was hooked. I now go to curves 5 times a week, take pilates twice a week, walk 10miles a week on my treadmill and use the rebounder daily about 15 mins. At my one year mark I had lost 129 lbs and 62.5 inches! I am currently at 135lbs lost at 14 months and have about 60 lbs to go! I will do it.... and you can do it too.... This website and the support groups let you know your not alone, show you some tricks, keep you inspired and let you tell your tales and hopefully insprire others...... We are all worth the good fight to once and for all loose the weight and be able to put our seat belts on! Good Luck to all

Good advice Shoresexy. Thanks for your practicality!

GINGER3151,

You said you are using low fat foods. Most products labeled Low Fat are very bad for you. They have artifical sweetners which in some people have shown to cause weight gain or difficulty losing weight. They are also filled with chemicals which may also hinder weight loss. Try staying away from anything labeled Low Fat of Fat Free or that has the work Diet.

It looks like 65% of respondents lost 40 lbs or more within the first 6 months. That's a pretty good statistic and very encouraging.

Hi Everybody,

So I've officially made the decision to self pay and I'm scheduling my surgery tomorrow!! AHHHH!!! :nervous :w00t: I go back to school in the fall and I was wondering what the average weight loss was for the first 6 months. (I want to clarify that this means post band and not including your pre-op diet.) I'm TOTALLY living in fantasy land and I was hoping ya'll would help me out here in dream world. Thanks team!

Love, Sheila

Going to face the music, take out tons of loans (at this point what's MORE debt!?) and get my BAND!!

I have lost 77pounds since the 27 of January and I also endeavor to exercise everyday and make healthy choices. I am not saying I haven't had my bad days but I am really glad I did it.

Today's my 6-month bandiversary, and I'm down 82 lbs.

Edit: I missed the "how?" part of your message. Basically, I follow the band rules most of the time, drink my Water, limit sugar, white flour, and trans/saturated fats. After the first 50-60 lbs., I started exercising, and have steadily progressed with that until I'm now doing a spin class 5-6 days a week plus strength training 2-3 days a week. I don't believe in keeping a "too tight" band, because I want to be able to eat Breakfast and solid Proteins. Oh, and I didn't use any Protein supplements until recently (due to the strength training).

For the last month or two I've been posting everything I eat and drink on my blog at Obesity Help, feel free to take a look:

Wow, 82 pounds is so awesome! You can see below where I am at 7 months. I complain that I want it to be more and faster, but my doctor is not aggressive and wants it to be slow. Basically, I don't count calories or anything. I start every meal by eating the meat. Then low carb vegies and stopping. If I think I'm still hungry, I wait 10 minutes and eat more Protein. Then I walk. I started with a mile and worked up to 3. Once I hit 3, I started running. Now I run a mile and a half and walk a mile and a half. When I finish my exercise, I eat some a small amount of Protein (summer sausage and cheese usually). Add to that a lot of Water every day.

I have to admit slipping the last few weeks. I haven't had a fill in 2 months and am eating way too much in quantity. Going to get a fill in 2 days.

I will officially be 6 months out on July 28, 2009. So far I have lost 54 pounds. I'm hoping by 6 months to be down 60+ pounds.

This was a great poll to see!

I'm at 3 1/2 months now, and sometimes get frustrated that i'm not seeing the scale move (during plateau's).

when i look at the poll results, i remind myself that at 3 1/2 months out, i should be proud that i have lost 43 pounds!

from the poll results it looks like the highest average is what i have lost already....and the poll was for SIX months out of surgery!!

I haven't done my measurements in a while but i'm sure on the weeks that the scale doesn't move, that the inches are still coming off.....

I can't wait to see where i will be at six months!!

Please tell me that the weight will start falling off - -- don't know what I am doing wrong. Have had my first fill and have only lost 4 lbs. A total of 14, but the liquid and soft diet after surgery get to take credit for that!!

Is it because I'm still eating too much? I have changed my eating habits and don't eat the foods I used to - -I buy and use all low fat ingredients, etc. Am I just being too anxious?

Any suggestions???

Perhaps your body could be more responsive to a low carb diet? Apparently my body is responding to the low carb pre op diet and I have been told to continue low carb for even more success after being banded. Low fat diets seem to have more carbs than my body could handle, but you'll still lose weight. Exercise helps too.

I'm not even 3 months out, and I'm down nearly 75. Of course, most of that I dropped prior to surgery. If we're just talking post-surgery, I guess I'm down about 28 pounds since surgery.

I have embraced working out. I started last October at 3 hours per week and now I am up to 7 hours per week - trying for an hour of activity per day (on average).

I recently bought the GoWearFit armband and it helps me track my activity - I have a goal of 7500 steps per day, 1 hour of activity per day, 1500 calories intake per day, 2500 calories burned per day. These are all targets and I do average pretty close to my targets. I also log every bite I put into my mouth to make sure I'm keeping in check with regard to a calorie deficit significant enough for loss.

I am still in the honeymoon period and I hope it never ends.

Some with a lot of weight to loos do loose faster, but then again it depends on a lot of other things..i for one at 6 months have done well, but not as well as i would like, i am 60 and have a bad hip, so i can not exercise, i cant really do much walking either, i do follow the band eating rules, and it is coming off by pounds slowly and by inches, i just have to keep telling myself that in a year, it will be more.. It is a slow go and i am a patient person..to a point...lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
