Any long-term sleevers out there for advice?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved in June 2012. I am down 78 lbs., which is awesome. I had shoulder surgery March 28, 2013 and basically sat around for 3 months. I didn't gain anything, but I also didn't lose. Now, I'm still stuck at the plateau that I have been in since March. I haven't gained anything, I'm still at 78 lbs. I've been exercising and eating well (at least I think I have). I do have carbs (blue chips or wraps), but no Pasta or bread or anything. I drink 48 grams of Protein per day, plus the meats/cheeses I eat for the other Protein.< /p>

I'm not able to use weights just yet as my shoulder still isn't strong enough, but I am doing cardio. It's now been over a year, and most of my weight was lost in the first 8 months post-surgery. Shouldn't I still be losing? My goal weight is still another 80 lbs. away. When I say I haven't lost anything.....I mean anything.

Can any of you tell me what year #2 brings?

Thanks

I am pre-sleeve, so feel free to ignore me. I am a type I diabetic, so I have been dealing with nutrtiion my whole life. Have you tried cutting grains out all together? (no wraps or chips for a while, keep your carbs limited to fruit/dairy.) Also try lean meats, fish, and low-fat cheeses. Also, if you can tolerate them, a lot of vegetarian options are low-fat and good sources of Protein. And as always, track your intake, weigh and measure your food, and keep fighting the good fight! Best of luck!!!

I'm five months out.

I know from my NUT that if you have more than 30 g of Protein in a sitting it doesn't "count" becuase the body can't proess it all.

I'm wondering if you're really getting as much Protein as you think you are?

What are your daily calories like? Are you still at a deficit?

I'm getting about 1000 calories a day, with a 30 g Protein shake, a Protein Bar (quest), some yogurt, some fruit, meat, some veggies, cheese, etc. I do have low carb wraps and low car crackers on occassion. I try to make sure the net carbs (carb - fiber) are low on whatever I have. The only yogurt I do is Dannon Light and Fit Greek so that the sugar carbs from the fruit are low. The NUT told me to limit fruit to 1/2 c a day, max, but I don't always do that.

I know as my BMI has come down it's gotten harder to lose weight. Basically the surgeon has said the surgery will help us get to overweight, not to ideal weight. But you still have a ways to go, so I can understand your frustration!

I'd really look at your food mix and calories. You should be able to do it without a ton of exercise, though, given your limitations.

Good luck!

Kathy

As long as you are burning more calories than you are eating, you should be able to continue to lose. There are some things that effect my weight though. When I eat stuff like donuts or cake, I tend to hold more Water. When I eat fruit, I know that my weight will stay the same for a few days. I know that I can expect to gain a lb or 2 when I eat my cheat meal on Sat. nights - I figure that is from the extra salt and processed foods I allow myself.

But when I stick to my post-op diet of lean meats and low-glycemic carbs (like squash and beans) I will lose weight.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
