Waiting is driving me crazy!

Recommended Posts

My paperwork was submitted to BCBS of AL on Monday, 11/11/13. I called BCBS today and they said it was still being reviewed, and then they reminded me that they have up to 30 business days (not including weekends) to review my case. That is a month and a half! Ridiculous!! I'm going to be calling them at least twice a week just to be the squeaky wheel! I really want to get this surgery done before the end of the year.

Packet sent in last Thursday, and still no word. Was hopeful after hearing people say it only took 24 hours for them to get a response. Called HBCBS NJ and they said they won't give me an answer over the phone, to wait for a call from my surgeon's office.

I'm a stay-at-home mom right now so my days are wide open and I honestly don't know what to do with myself until I hear back!

Glad you got approved!

OMG....it has only been a day since I called BCBS to see if I've been approved, and I want to call them again! Is this usual? Can I not wait until at least next week??? I MUST learn to have patience....

Please Lord, give me patience, and give it to me NOW!

Found out today that I've been denied....sigh. Now comes the appeals process.

I was soooo hoping to get this done by the end of the year.

Yes... they said my BMI wasn't 40+ for the last 3 years, and although my BMI was over 35 for the past 3 years, my co-morbidities weren't bad enough. They also said that my primary doctor didn't document the 6 month diet that I did with her recommended dietitian. I should get a letter spelling everything out, then I'm going to try for an appeal.

I watched "The Biggest Loser" last night and was shocked that most of the women weighed less than I did. They looked huge to me. Surely I don't look that big, so they must be awful short! Who am I kidding... I look just like them.

I'm currently waiting and I'm a nervous wreck. I have been calling the doctors office and the insurance every day. I'm being a bug but they don't seem to mind. Apparently the documents have been sent but BCBS IL says they don't see it. I'm worried about being denied because I started out at 39.5 BMI and I'm not sure if I meet the co-morbidity requirement. I have high cholesterol and asthma. I'm crossing my fingers that I will hear something tomorrow. What an intense experience!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
