Hello Washington Sleevers :) Just found this thread.... I had my sleeve done 3 weeks ago at NWWLS by Dr. Montgomery and live in the Arlington area. I'm wondering if there are any support groups or meet ups in my area or up north? They do have them once a month after work at NWWLS but I-5 traffic is a nightmare after work and pretty far away since I work in Mt Vernon!

Debbie, puget sound surgical out of Edmonds has a support group that meets monthly in Marysville. I don't know if it is open to non patients, but worth calling and asking them. I suspect there are support groups in Everett too - I would call Providence everett and ask them. good luck!

Going to have my surgery at Puget Sound Bariatrics later this summer. Is the support group just for post-op?

That is where I am going! Have surgery with Dr. Landerholm on 9/22! Luckily my insurance is covering all but the fitness after care and I used my FSA to pay for any copays. I love how dr landerholm really takes the time to chat with you and get to know you. He is awesome

Dr. Landerholm is doing my sleeve Feb 18! Insurance pays fornit, and I also will be using FSA for my copays :) I cannot wait to get this done, and be on the losers bench!

I see I posted here a few times, redundant posts! LOL I have scoured so many posts, I forgot where I posted. I use the mobile app, and I think it's flawed. Oh well, I would love to get together, or just chat with local sleevers

Jen, there are a couple of people organizing local get togethers. there was one last weekend in Bothell and I think they are doing something in the Fife or Tacoma area (don't remember!)

I am near the northend, but have a real hard time making it to Sunday afternoon stuff so haven't attended yet. There are other hospital based support groups around too.

BELLINGHAM, WA----just had a revision lap-band (2006) to sleeve on Jan 13 2015 at Northwest Weight Loss Dr Montgomery. He was amazing and so is the staff there. Many with WLS themselves. I also like and agree with his realistic pre-op and post-op food plans.

Glad to find this thread for Washington folks. I have so much to learn.

QUESTION: Does anyone know why EVERYTHING tastes so different now? Even Water which I loved pre-surgery and now it's all I can do to get past the weird taste of water. And well everything else too

Best wishes to you all and GO HAWKS!!!

be well, i don't know why everything tasted weird - it happened to me too. i couldn't even drink plain Water - herbal tea, not hot but warm was a lifesaver for quite awhile. Good news is, it really helps you get over your food addiction..haha. Bad news is, before long food tastes good again. :) so "enjoy it"while you can!

After 3 years, the only thing that still tastes weird is water and that isnt too bad, I can drink it again. It made me sad because I used to love plain ole water but a small price to pay to be half my former size!!!!

Hello Everyone!!

I wanted to let you all know about our upcoming meeting next Sunday 2/8 at 3 pm at the Lyons Den Cafe at 10415 Beardslee Blvd in Bothell. Please spread the word with friends that would be interested in joining us. There is a several year old thread about people wanting a meeting in this area and it's finally happening along with some groups in different locations!!

Exciting times.

I'm taking the liberty to create a theme for the meeting:

Protein, Protein, protein!!

Bring in 1 serving of your favorite protein powders in labeled plastic baggies.

We can swap and try products we've not tried before.

If you prefer ready-go-to drinks or bars bring a chilled sample and we'll have a few cups on hand.

We will have a room reserved and everyone should be prepared to make a purchase from the cafe.

Also, come with ideas about future meet-up ideas.

Let me know if you have questions or concerns.

Thanks and see you all there!
Michelle and Kay (co-hosts)

Go Hawks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
