Liquids seem to go down quick is this rught ?

Recommended Posts

Hello all I am two weeks post op and it seems that liquids seem to go down quick with no trouble unlike previous two weeks .. Where a Protein Shake would take an hour last week thus week it takes 5 minutes so I am consciously making it last as long as I can .. And last night I had a small tin of Soup which I sip from a cup and for the first time managed it all .. Is this normal ? Also I drink a cup if coffee now as I did before the op it is Decaf but I am just worried am I drinking too much liquid ??

We are all different. That said, like you, by week 2 I have never had any trouble drinking. I fill quickly, of course, but I can get it in normally... Strange...

I drank 80 ounces of liquid the day after surgery while still in the hospital! The day of my discharge I had a 16 ounce portion of chicken broth in one sitting...same day I accidentally forgot I was sleeved and drank three gulps of warm apple tea in a row.. and NOTHING HAPPENED. liquids have from pretty much the first day, just run right through my sleeve. My sleeve had hardly any inflammation following surgery and that's why I never had a problem with liquids. Some people's sleeves are so inflamed that they are nearly closed and that's why they can't get liquids down at first. So if you're able to tolerate liquids better, that's a good thing, that means the swelling in your sleeve is going down.

The consequences for the caffine and liquor, other than the addiction factor, is an increase in the likelihood of getting an ulcer. Drinking after you eat will push the food through your sleeve faster, meaning you will be hungry again sonner...which leads to more calories and weight gain. Also depending on what you put in yr coffee, if anything, that and the liquor are just non-nutritional calories.

I am like you and the others. No issues with fluids and I am thankful. I don't drink the shakes, so I can't say for sure there but Water etc... Goes right down.

My doc said liquids pretty much go straight out. I was drinking too slowly because I was afraid of over filling my sleeve, but once she told me that I started drinking a lot faster. I will be 5 weeks post op on Tuesday and I can drink about 16 ounces in 15-20 minutes with no problem.

You guys are lucky, I still feel dehydrated and have to sip all day and can't seem to get all my fluids in (2 weeks out).

LOL. I worry about this all the time! It just seems to me that drinking a lot of liquid will stretch out a sleeve and I used to panic about it all the time. But I have discovered that I can take sips of a clear liquid, like Water or crystal light or herbal tea, all day long and there does not seem to be any negative effect. It gives me something to do when I am sitting at my desk (I know, I should not be using food or drink to offset boredom, but hey..it is what it is... at least I'm not eating!) and it does not seem to be negative, I still get full after eating about an egg size portion of food...so I am doing it. But if there is a reason NOT to...someone post it, please!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
