MindiJean 93 Posted October 20, 2013 Has anyone seen any of their PCOS symptoms disappear after surgery?
Madam Reverie 2,958 Posted October 20, 2013 I wouldn't say 'disappear', but despite being on Cerazette contraception pill (which stops your periods), I decided to spontaneously have a period - and I'm 4 weeks out of surgery. Hormones must be going crazy!
Crazypants 36 Posted October 20, 2013 MJ, I haven't posted my experience yet and currently tapping out letter by letter this post on iPad. Verrrry slow. I had/have the most severe case of pcos that my drs had seen. This surgery gave me my life back. No more blood sugar issues due to insulin resistance bc even my IR is gone! All gone. Off all meds. Hormones stable for the first time since it all started 10 years ago. The weight just drops off. Having the energy to walk or ride bikes is amazing. Like many other before me who said the facial hair issue didn't reverse... Mine didn't either but I will gladly take it. I don't follow the weight loss that most do on here... The weight loss although awesome was never my primary reason for the surgery. I only weigh at the dr office. I barely get a few weeks in "new" jeans/capris before it's time to drop another size down. Gone from 20 and am knocking on 12, only 4 months out. No more hot flashes or sitting under a fan at work.my nails aren't like paper anymore.. Strong and beautiful! My hair Changed too... Healthier! Let me know if you have any questions. This surgery affects each of us differently... Good luck. 3 Mammecan, Sleevesdropper and tigermom12 reacted to this

The meds that I am on currently are for hypothyroidism, I'm on two insulins and Metformin, a blood pressure med, a CPAP for sleep apnea, Prevacid, a med for cholesterol, Spiro for Water pill and facial hair, and a few different meds for OCD/PTSD. I know the psych meds will remain, but my hope is to get off the insulin more than anything! 2 Crazypants and noamy4life reacted to this
Crazypants 36 Posted October 20, 2013 I was on bp pill... Stopped taking immediately per dr since my numbers were normal that fast!!! We may put me back on cholesterol med because of family genetics. :/ I didn't think of it until you posted.... Surgery gives me lots of acid so I take Prevacid. But not every day... 1-2 times a week now. Off metformin, anxiety med and one for depression. Saw many posts from people saying its normal to NEED the meds for depression after surgery. I finally came off that a month ago. Just work with your doctor, watch those test results and listen to your gut! My dr wants me on the antidepressant until March 2014... "Just to be safe" but when I saw her last time I said.... Seriously, I really don't need it. Also off my progesterone!!! I have two coworkers who were able to stop their insulin with weeks after their surgery. Trust your own path and your own timing!!! I'm very excited for you!!!! this forum and the support here answered sooo many questions but mostly those first few weeks after surgery. 1 noamy4life reacted to this
gamergirl 4,610 Posted October 28, 2013 Hi there! I just created an autoimmune support group for us! Please follow and post there. I keep losing this thread because it's not in a forum. I sure hope to see all of us there. Here's the link http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/groups/show/269-autoimmune-sleevers/
supermom223 140 Posted November 6, 2013 I have same question. I was diagnossed with PCOS at 21 yrs old (164lbs) I had surgery 8/8/13 and almost at a 60lb loss(230lbs >174lbs)!! Went to dr yesterday and ultrasound indicated cysts were still all there and no indication of ovulation. Dr ordered lab tests to see if I have reversed the condition. Kind of confused. Im only 3 months out.. Not sure if and when cysts will go away and IF I will ever ovulate on my own despite my VERY regular periods...
MsBadu504 45 Posted November 14, 2013 I'm 5 weeks out today, and got my 1st period after surgery (which is in schedule). My periods were so irregular, I bled for 2 weeks prior to my surgery, during, and 1 after my surgery.
MsBadu504 45 Posted November 14, 2013 I am noticing my complexion is lightening up; all my insulin resistant black marks are disappearing.
