Bigbeaz 91 Posted October 20, 2013 (edited) Silly question for everyone but I think its a necessary one. I got some chest and belly hair (ima guy ok lol) My question is should I shave it the day before surgery or does it matter? Chelenka 827 Posted October 20, 2013 Don't shave. If they need to they'll do it in the OR.
unbesleevable1 420 Posted October 20, 2013 No Shaving!. Research has shown that hair removal prior to surgery actually INcreases the infection rate. If you do any hair removal at all, you can use clippers. Better to leave it to the experts and just do your pre op wash really well. Good luck!
sonya139 95 Posted October 20, 2013 See what your surgeon says. I would think that they would give you pre surgery instructions.
EarthyGoalie 253 Posted October 20, 2013 I have some hair, but as a woman, it is just fine, small hair. And after my surgery, I noticed that they shaved my stomach! Even though I didnt even have a lot of hair! So I say bring yourself there, and whatever they need to do (whether shaving), they will do it anyway. So just let them worry about that. They've seen all kinds of stomachs before, they know what they need to do.
thesmilos 144 Posted October 20, 2013 The surgical team did for me before they started the incisions. The beauty of it was that I was already knocked out and woke up with a smooth belly.

fp9107 121 Posted October 20, 2013 When I went in they shaved just where the incisions were going to be, so I looked like my chest hair was falling out. My suggestion would be to shave it, at least the hair will be pretty much be the same length. They may have to shave just where your incisions will be. 1 Bigbeaz reacted to this
TeresaRN 57 Posted October 20, 2013 No shaving!! They will clip you at the hospital ! Shaving can cause open areas to your skin and you are at higher risk for infection!!
Italiancurves 117 Posted October 21, 2013 Hhmm good question. I guess the consensus is NOT to shave so u don't in tease risk of infection. Good to know. I probably would have run a razor of my legs the night before. Now I won't. Good luck. 1 Bigbeaz reacted to this
