How can you tell what to eat?

Recommended Posts

Im having no problem getting liquids down, any consistency, any temp, and I'm just curious how you can tell when your ready to move into puréed. Coughing and dry heaving we're EXTREMELY painful in the hospital, so I want to avoid vomiting at all costs.

Also, I know this is TMI, but how long before people had a bowel movement? I'm not surprised that I haven't had one since there isn't much in me, but I don't want to go too long without one.

my puree stage starts 3 weeks after surgery. Some doctors start it as soon as a week post op. Check with your surgeon.

unbesleevable is right. Check with your surgeon. I had no puree stage and went from liquids to soft foods at the one week point. I had no vomiting or other difficulties either. Whenever you move to the next stage, just eat small bites, chew well and don't have much at any one meal. You will be fine.

Your surgeon should tell you what you should be eating. Surgeon's are different. You want to go by what yours tells you to do.

Yeah my surgeon says to do liquid two weeks post op then move to puréed, but he also said to call if I get tired I liquid and really want to move forward to puréed. I think I'm just eager for food. My Protein Shakes helped my number two issue as well...

If you feel really constipated and don't want to wait for something to take foever to work, go and get a Fleet's enema. After that, take Miralax every other day.

The way my doctor did the post op diet was 10 days clear liquid

10 days full liquid

'10 days mushie foods.

Like everyone said, call your doctor and ask how you should proceed with your post op diet. They should have given you something written down, about a post op diet.
