Smooth Recovery? Anyone?

Recommended Posts

One horror story that freaked me out is people saying they can only drink 2oz of Water every 15 min. I was afraid I would not be able to drink Water and that freaked me out.

I timed myself drinking 16oz of water at a leisurely rate. I was not rushing or trying to see how fast I could drink it.

14min (watching TV, carrying on a conversation...)

That is hardly the 2 oz every 15 min.

After the first week I was able to start drinking Water a pretty decent rate. I can drink 8 ounces in about 5 minutes without feeling over full. Some people just have swelling the last longer than others.

Sleeved on 10/3.

Was found to have Atril fibulation as a result of stress of surgery.Cardiac disc. Got it under control before they let me out.

Er than that the VSGwent text book perfectly.

I am almost 3 weeks out , have lost 12 lbs since surgery.Had some Constipation --- was told drink more Water.

It worked.

No food issues. I follow doc's orders. And haven't problems.

I get mushy foods in 8 days.

Recovery was very easy......a little soreness where they cut off that part of the stomach......not even enough discomfort to warrent pain meds.

But, I may have a higher pain tolerance than some........Good luck

I am 13 days post-op. My recovery was easy! Everyone is different but I felt back to normal pretty much by day 3, walking 3 miles, traveling, etc. I had zero pain from the actual surgery, only gas pain in shoulders the first few days post-op. I'm also sleeping better than I have in years and my acid reflux is gone thanks to my surgeon repairing a hiatal hernia during surgery. Getting the sleeve has already shown to be a good choice in ways I didn't expect. Good luck!

I have been extremely fortunate as well. I'm 9 days postop and haven't had any real pain at all and no nausea or vomiting at all, no problems getting Protein or fluids in, etc. Only pain has been some soreness after pushing the walking up to 4 miles or so. I was out and around town 5 days post op for a few hours and was a little sore then too. I thank my lucky stars everyday so that it has gone so smoothly. I was super nervous about it beforehand.

Today is Thursday, I was sleeved on Monday. Had some gas pain last night and walked it off. Other than that this has been so much easier than I thought it would be.

I am 7.5 months from surgery and have lost 87 lbs. My recovery was easy. I walked in the hospital as much as possible, followed the diet stages to a T and after having surgery on a Wednesday went back to work the following Monday. Was there pain - yes of course, but not anything some Tylenol couldn't handle. My doctor also allows Motrin.

I'm almost 9 months post op and I didn't have any major complications. Surgery was a breeze, I had a small skin reaction to dermabond but nothing terrible. Life is back to normal.

I had my surgery on 9/9 and it has been a breeze. As some people have mentioned, I think it is important to go into it with certain decisions already made. My decisions were: I will walk, walk, walk, as soon as possible. I will get in all of my liquids. I will get in all of my Protein - every day - no questions asked. If you notice, most of the people who report good early results do these things. Also, I used my binder all day, every day for about the first three weeks, then I started tapering off. Good luck, you can do this.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
