Smooth Recovery? Anyone?

Recommended Posts

I to have had no complications. Sleeved on 31st July. I have even tried things to see if I would have a reaction. Nothing. Other than not eating very much, I feel very fortunate, as I have read horror stories others have posted. We are all different.

I am at the 1 week mark today and I feel great. I almost don't feel like I had surgery at all and ready to progress in my diet as far as new foods. I can definitely only eat very limited quanities. Waking up after the surgery and the few hours after were by far the hardest due to the CO2 they pump inside of you.

I M 3 1/2 weeks out. NO PROBLEMS, I am following doctors orders to the T.

Have lost 16 pounds since surgery.40 before surgery. 56 total. My goal is 75 lost by NewYears.

My surgery kicked my heart into A - fib. They are controlling it with meds. Met with cardiologist few days ago. If a had a nickel for every time he said I was young and healthy I'd have a dollar.

During my Pre op testing I was found to have sleep apnea, and a hyper-para-thyroid condition.

The apnea is under control with a C- pap machine. And the para thyroid is being operated on 2 weeks from today.

By losing 56 pounds......., I feel 20 years younger. The doc says getting the para thyroid out will make me feel 10 years younger.

LOOK OUT AMERICA. A 60 year old with a 30 year old body could be dangerous!

The A- fib is being controlled with meds quite nicely. In December they will give me the " paddles" and try to bring me back to normal sinus rythum.

I had surgery 9/30 and everything has been very easy. I had very little pain I had the surgery on mon an the last pain med I took was on tues. I did start walking as soon as they would let me out of bed. No nausea I have been able to drink Water right away Clear Liquids first week Protein Shakes week 2-3 and on my second week of mushy food just follow what your surgeon and NUT says and you will be fine. Get your fluids in an walk, walk, walk. Good luck.

I am 3 weeks out. No problems. I had minimal pain. Some nausea, no vomiting. No Constipation. I walk everyday. I eat what I am suppose to and everything as agreed with me. Not so much the Protein Drinks but I am getting my Protein in with high protein foods allowed on my progression. I drink the amount of fluids I need.

I went into this being positive. I think that helps a lot. I have plenty of cheerleaders and my hubs has been so supportive.

I had surgery on a Thursday and went back to work the following Monday! I felt great. The only concern I've had is maintaining my weight. (I know, tough problem to have) 10 months out starting weight 246

Current 126

120 lbs gone FOREVER

I am one week out. It hasn't been nearly as bad as I thought it would have been. My pain was minimal in the hospital, also maybe a 4. It was sore getting in and out of bed for about the first four-five days. Gas pains were easily controlled with gas-x. Walk as much as possible and drink your Water & Protein. I was told to take 2 weeks off work. I go back Monday. Good luck!

Thanks for your reply. I have been following your progress through your posts and I must say that you look absolutely beautiful. You are an inspiration. How tall r u? I'm only 5'2, and my surgery weight will probably be close to yours after the preop diet. Do you have any excess skin issues? What about face wrinkles? These are the other things that worry me.

Thank you so much. I do have a lot of excess skin which I plan to her removed eventually. I am 4' 11 1/2. I had no idea I had this little body under all that fat. It's truly the best thing I've ever done. The face wrinkles are more prominent but I've been doing a little Botox. :) all the best you!!

I had an amazing recovery! No pain or complications at all! Just do what your doctor tells you to do and go slow, relax...so much of all we do starts with our frame of mind...stay positive!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
