Smooth Recovery? Anyone?

one month out - No pain from surgery what so ever. Had it rough with naseau the first night and first day after, but they gave me something for it and it was gone. No problems since. Only food not agreeing with me at the moment are eggs. Still learning I need to slow down when I eat.

I'm 5 days out of surgery and feel great, just a bit weak from lack of calories... When the nurses asked me what my pain level was, the worse it was was a 4, then after that it was 2 or nonexistent. The gas was mostly just uncomfortable but it's totally gone. I think that a lot of people that initially have problems with nausea may have had a bad reaction to the anesthesia, which can be common. I have had several surgeries, and this has been by far the easiest... The liquid diet, especially the clear part has been tougher for me than the actual surgery. What's amazing is that in 5 days, I've lost 10 pounds! 22 pounds total in 18 days. Best of luck to you!

Hi Lynn, I think picking the surgeon is the most important thing! Many surgeons have NO leaks and very few if any complications. I had my surgery 9/11/13 in Mexico since I decided to self-pay. During surgery a hiatal hernia was discovered and repaired at no extra charge. I had no post op complications and am doing great at 5 1/2 weeks post op. I read a lot on this forum and other places and am very excited about the future. For me after years of yo yo dieting I know this will help me get control to keep the weight off and be able to maintain cleaner eating and a healthier lifestyle!

My recovery was a piece of cake. No problems AT ALL. I felt bad about how easy mine was when others had challenges. :/

This forum was vital when I had questions in the first few weeks. Love this place!!

Good luck! Happy thoughts and prayers that yours is the same.

5 months post-op and no problems here, except what to do with a wardrobe that is now 3-4 sizes too big.

I will be 4 weeks post op on Wednesday and have had such an easy and smooth recovery. I can drink very easily without any discomfort and have tolerated every food I have tried, so far, without any problems. The only pain I have experienced was when I was still in recovery and that was only minor gas pain that had settled in my chest. Other than that, I have had zero pain since then. I started walking soon after surgery and walked a lot everyday, throughout the day. I'm so thankful that everything has worked out the way it has for me with this surgery. I was sleeved September 25, 2013 in Mexico and have lost 33 lbs so far (started at 263). I'm super happy!

I am 5 weeks out today and have had no problems. In the hospital I was up and walking right after surgery. I did have some minor gas pains and was tired the first couple of days but that is it as far as surgery effects. No need for pain meds after I left the hospital or anything. I have lost a total of 37 pounds, started at 265 and am at 228 today. I have not had problems with nausea and have had no vomiting. None of the foods I have tried have disagreed with me. I don't need to sip as I can drink a couple ounces at a time no problem. My only true issue has been Constipation which I am working on. Pre-surgery though I wasn't exactly "normal" with bowel activities and this way of eating with high Protein has exacerbated the issue so I am taking Fiber gummies daily and Miralax every few days. I am very happy with my recovery and with my surgery!!

I have had no problems with recovery. Totally text book, a little pulling type pain the first couple of days that was it. It's been 3 weeks eating softer type food, vegetables well cooked and chewing everything well. So far no problems with any food. I am trying to follow the rules.

I was sleeved Friday at 9:30 and went to my sons football game Saturday at 11:30. Only stayed for 1/2 of it.

I have no issue drinking anything, but the sweet shakes are driving me crazy. I do not like sweet stuff so I am going nuts. I just ordered powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup and unflavored to give me other options. I went to my PCP because I have been sick with a cold for a month and now it is bad and he could not believe I had surgery 3 days ago.

Friday and Friday night was rough, but I walked every 2 hours.

Today I have my chest infection, unrelated to the surgery, and liquid in liquid out, but no pain at all.

I know what you mean about some of the stories, I read one where someone said they were feeling human again at 12 weeks And I was like omg ! I'm 4 weeks and 3 days and i would never know I even had surgery if not for my new food choices (still on soft). I had surgery on a Friday afternoon and by Tuesday I was working 10 hr days. I was a little tired but other than that haven't had a single problem.

I am two and a half weeks out and feeling pretty good. I still have a lot of left side pain where they separated the muscles but I also used to have a lap band and think I have some extra scar tissue in there that is contributing to the extra pain. As long as I'm on my pain meds I'm feeling great and I'm 20 pounds down. Don't let all the story scare you it's definitely worth it! Best of luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
