How long is the healing process?

Recommended Posts

I'm 2 weeks post op tomorrow. I can't keep anything down but ice and Popsicles and sometimes that is even foamy and comes back up. I'm burning up with acid and worried about dehydrating. Even sipping sometimes can be painful. I have the worst case of buyers remorse and wish I was just happy fat. What I'm feeling now is much worse than any tired lazy day I had pre op. :(

:( oh no! The only thing you should be worried about right now is staying hydrated! I had buyers remorse... well hell at 5.5 weeks out I still do a little but trust me it's getting easier every single day. And I didn't have the issues you're having so I imagine you feel a little defeated right now. Hang in there and keep drinking, slowly. You don't want a trip into the ER for bags of Fluid. It's expensive and a pain the butt. You've got this.

I'm so sorry! I haven't been sleeved yet but I have heard that what you are going through is common. The most important thing is to get your fluids in. If what you are trying makes you sick, try some warm Water or some ginger tea. At 2 weeks out, you are probably still swollen a bit and something warm might be soothing. Above all that, you should call your doctors office and see what they recommend. I hope you start to feel better soon! And once you do, the buyers remourse will go away.

Thank you. I feel like a trip to the ER is in my near future and the bruises from them blowing up my veins aren't even gone yet! ????

I felt like warmed over death for the 1st 10 days, then things started getting better day by day. But it took me 3 months to get back to the same energy levels I had pre-surgery. Now at 10 months, my energy is going through the roof!

Well lets try to be proactive and avoid that as much as possible because that sounds like it's going to hurt more than the pain you're in right now. You should be able to take liquids in at this point. Maybe a call to your surgeon tomorrow is in order to let them know where you're at in 2 weeks. You should be further along drinking liquids wise. Perhaps you not being able to take in liquids means you're dehydrated already and it's slowing down your recovery (which will and does happen, often).

Dehydration....Get some G2 and mix it 1/2 and 1/2 with Water and sip sip sip.....It will fix the hydration issue because that is what it is made for...To keep your electrolytes up.....You may also need acid reflux meds for now...And maybe some nausea meds too....

I needed all that stuff at first, but not now...11 months out!

I wish I had seen this post earlier. I bought some pedialite and a baby bottle. I feel ridiculous drinking out of a bottle at 32 years old but if it helps...????

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
