Getting sleeved on Halloween and wondering if I will have to take little sips of water/liquids for the rest of my life, or will I eventually be able to drink it normally.

I'm surprised at how many sips I'm able to take and a little over a week post op. Just don't push it and you'll know when you do. WIth everything from here on out it just takes time.

You will always have to drink Water slowly.....at first very slowly, but after a couple of months a little more quickly. Hope that helps :)

Once you learn how much you can handle per swallow, it becomes a habit really quick. I can take 3 swallows of my drinks without even having to think about it now. I can tell by the feel on my tongue if I have sucked in too much liquid. But it did take me a few months to readjust to the new lower amount I was able to drink per sip. It started out at about a teaspoon full the 1st weeks and now it's probably about an ounce per mouthful.

I am probably one of the few that haven't had a problem drinking. In the very beginning I had to take it easy but very soon after I was able to drink normal. I use a straw and always have (my Dr. said it was fine) and I can take a food 4 or 5 gulps at a time.

Everyone is different. I am able to drink normal, but try not to gulp. The bigger the drink, the bigger the burps and sometimes tummy cramps early in the morning. I'm 3 weeks out. I was miserable when I came out of surgery. They would only let me have 2 oz of Water per hour. I asked my daughter to wet a wash cloth and I sucked the Water out of it. Lol. Things got better fast though. :-). Thank God! I no longer sip! I drink like a normal person.

I am also concerned about this. I drink A LOT of Water and I am wondering how I will adjust post surgery. I get very thirsty - maybe I can just eat ice cubes?

All I drank for theist part before surgery was Water and tea. I have continued to do the same, but nooooo gulping. That is forever gone. I try to ensure I don't get to a point where I'm super thirsty. All is good though.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
