Focus needs to change, my head is screwed up!

Recommended Posts

So I'm 10 weeks out (thought I was 9 on thurs, my bad) anyway since I was released to soft fork tender foods, my head has been so messed up! I've eat more carbs than I should, I have had a few things that were "fork tender" but not really on my plan!!! I HAVE NOT HAD ANY FORM of SUGAR (like cakes, muffins, cupcakes, snack cakes etc......just so we are clear!!! I have not stalled I've continued to loss weight at a steady pace, but I know it could be more! So I'm putting this out there....my head will not win this game, my body and my new sleeve will! I loss a lot more weight when I stick to mostly low carb, high protein!!! So I'm taking my cravings and I'm going to be stronger than them!!! Like I said, steady weight loss wins the game and this is not a race, but I would rather get to the finish line sooner rather than later!!!

Just my thought for the day!!!

Kim

Highest weight EVER 272lbs in 2004 (day I deliver twins!)

Preop weight 8/2013 252lbs (sad I was only 20lbs lighter than I was preg with twins, and I gained 70lbs when I was preg)

Weight 10/13/13 211lbs

10 weeks post op

You can do this but just take one day at a time....even 1 hour at a time if need be. Went 8 months without bread, Pasta, desserts...It is harder when you can have some... Still trying to lose the last 7 pounds but I will do it.

There is a book called Emotional First Aid. You can get it on kindle. It will definitely help with the head stuff. The book is by Cynthia Alexander. It is a guide for life after weight loss surgery. You will find something in there that will resonate with you to help.

I just went through something similar. When I was told at 6 weeks I could a eat a larger range of foods, I quickly fell back into the slider foods I had been eating with my band. One tip that had helped me a lot the last two weeks was to drink 12-16oz between each meal/snack. So now I get my food or snack, wait until I want a drink after eating, at that point I check the clock and add 30 minuets. So usually it's an hour after I have eaten that I start drinking. Then I have to get down the 16 oz water bottle before I eat again. This has really cut down on the number of times I am eating. And I am really amazed that I seem to be craving less treats, and having less head hunger.

I will try this also!! I def need to drink more! Pre surgery I was drinking around 200 oz of Fluid a day! Now between meals and waiting to drink, I'm lucky to get in 70 oz

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
