November Lily 0 Posted March 4, 2007 From what I can gather from reading the forums, everyone had different rules set by their doctors regarding the different food stages. My doctor said, a week of purely Clear liquids, then creamier Soups for a week (so two weeks liquid), then two weeks mushies, then normal food. What did your doctor tell you to do? Did anyone not stick totally to their doctors rules? I admit I havent, I started creamier Soups earlier than I should have and have chewed and chewed a few spoonfulls of friends food - still soft though. I hope I havent messed up. (once I get more options I will add a poll) Lily x
Davyna 0 Posted March 5, 2007 Thanks for posting this. I was about to post the same thing. It seems every doctor has their own opinion of what the post op diet should be. For example, my doctor wants me on Clear Liquids for TWO weeks, while other doctors say clear liquids for only three days. I am really sick of broth and am thinking of giving up my clear liquid diet a few days early. I'm really not eating enough because I am sick of everything I am allowed to eat. Here are my doctor's orders post op- 1st two weeks- clear liquids 3rd week- full liquids (through the straw type stuff, puree) 4th week- full solids
NJChick 3 Posted March 5, 2007 I did this: week 1 - 2 clear liquids week 3 thicker liquids week 4 mushies week 5 solids I did stick with it b/c I was so afraid of hurting myself. It was so hard the first 3 weeks but I figured I had gone this far

anonemouse 1 Posted March 6, 2007 My original surgeon required a post-op diet that was like this: 3-4 days clear liquids 4-7 days full liquids 7 days mushies But he also wanted everyone to stay on a 600-800 calorie diet, eat very small amounts at a time (like 3 oz Protein and 2-4 tbsp veggies) and avoid all bread, Pasta, rice, etc. until they hit goal. Obviously, he was mainly a RNY surgeon. I am really glad I had insurance issues and had to switch, in hindsight.

marys 2 Posted March 6, 2007 7 days clear liquids 14 days full liquids on day 22 start full solids i never cheated during the post op diet above as i was super scared of hurting the band/healing process. i think it has helped me (i always say that doc stiched the band in good) cuz i've messed up plenty since banding - i always try food that might not work one day but works the next (my band is very fickle and i like eating a variety of foods) i have pb'd many many times mostly from bad habits - though i am learning and probably being too tight and eating the foods i mentioned above. i am a hard headed stubborn woman sometimes.
