Hunger - did it come back and when?

Recommended Posts

I'm almost 4 months post op and I have REALLY noticed a huge change in my level of hunger over the last couple of weeks (going from zero most of the time) and I am starting to crave sweet things again. I know that this happens and some people never loose hunger after surgery and some do. Just curious about other people's experience. This for me has coincided with also being able to eat quite a bit more so I am REALLY scared to respond to the hunger....would love your feedback

I'm only 3 weeks post op, but my hunger never really went away. Well, I didn't feel hungry for the first maybe 4days.... after that, if I didn't regularly, I get REALLY hungry. Starving even.

I feel the same way. I'm able to eat more and craving sweets again. Not happy about it but I can resist.

I had hunger the week after I had my surgery. Just eat when you're hungry -> a yogurt or a bit of cheese...and bam. You're full

The 1st week post op, I was excited that I was 1 of the lucky ones to lose their hunger. Than bam. Day 10 arrived and I became hungry again. It doesn't take much to fill me up (I can eat 2 bites of a burger and be full) but I'm hungry again 2 hrs later.

Guess I wasn't one of the lucky ones to lose it. Bummer...

I'm almost 2 weeks out and I do feel hungry more often then I think I should. I lost 31lbs the first 10 days after surgery but now it's only been 5 lbs in 2 weeks. I'm worried that I'm eating too much but I really don't think I am. I don't exercise as much cuz I have bad knees and lower back pain but I try to as much as I can. I'm just worried that I'm not gonna lose the weight that I need to and this whole surgery was a waste.

I am starting to crave sweet things again.

....

I encourage you to try eating a very low carb diet for a couple of weeks and see if it eliminates your sweet cravings. For a lot of people, eating carbs of any sort makes them crave sweets. The first week that you eliminate carbs you'll probably crave sweets worse than usual, but after that you level of cravings should go down. If after a couple of weeks of low carb you find that you are still having your cravings, then you could stop the low carb diet if you want to, or stick with it if you prefer. But if you see that it does help with your cravings then consider staying on low carb for a while.

A whole lot of people lose about 5 pounds per week for several weeks around the time of the surgery and then after that they lose around 2 or 2 1/2 pounds per week. You've lost 36 pounds in a month which is fantastic, so I don't believe you have anything to worry about. It is important that you have realistic expectations going forward about your rate of loss per week or month. At the current rate, you'll be losing around 10 pounds per month going forward. That's fairly average, so I don't think that you should expect any more than that.

Thanks for starting this thread, Carmella. It's on my mind today too. I had the surgery Monday. I woke up with enormous hunger day before yesterday, this morning and this afternoon after a nap. broth makes it go away. But I wish I didn't feel it at all.

I've seen a few people mention the idea that too much acid in the stomach mimics the feeling of hunger; so I'm going to take the Prilosec every morning as the doctor directed. Before, I only took half at a time because I didn't feel the need for it. I have no other symptoms of too much acid.

I was sleeved June 7th so I am a little over 4 months. I have stayed away from all carbs that are bad for you. I do not have a craving for sweet stuff and only feel hungry when I haven't eaten all day. I do take an acid reducer in the a.m. and the p.m. Acid will mimic hunger in a big way so if you aren't taking one I suggest you give it a try.

I started feeling hunger pains about four days after surgery. I was on a acid reducer before surgery and continue it since surgery twice a day. Usually after I eat something I am satisfied. Some others have mentioned that thirst can mimicked hunger I get in on average 48 to 56 ounces of Water per day. I am aiming for 64 ounces.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I don't eat any carbs, but the few times that I have eaten them I have noticed my hunger increased. Thirst might be worth looking into as I am sure I'm not drinking enough. Plus I have eaten a few small deserts over the last couple of weeks (visitors staying with us) so they may have also spurred on some sugar cravings! or maybe I'm just getting hungry again. Thanks for your feedback :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
