Nausea. 4 mo postop

Recommended Posts

Only problem I have experienced from surgery is nausea. It has gotten better and the only time it bothers me is after I have taken about 3 or 4 bites. It goes away in about 15 min. But I can't eat anymore after this. I can't believe my stomach is already full but am wondering if this is my way of knowing enough. Would appreciate any feedback

I too get nauseated when I eat, only sometimes though. I noticed it is bad if I eat something that has a lot of fat in it. Tonight I tried a few pieces of a Bloomin Onion. I was soooo sick, couldnt even eat my Soup for dinner. Everything I saw and smelled made me sick. I wanted to leave but it was my son's birthday dinner so I sat through dinner. Feel better now, but that was not fun. I had my sleeve on 9/12/13

Depends on what I eat. Plus (and I was like this before surgery,) I get extremely nauseated when I'm sleep deprived, so sometimes it's just a matter of that.

I started having nausea at about 4 months post op. No nausea before that. Surgeon is sending me for gall bladder tests. Oh joy.

Salt helps with nausea, by the way. Drink salty broth, or add salt to eggs or potatoes. I started eating potato chips and Skinny Pop popcorn, which really helped with the nausea. Problem is that those foods are trigger foods for me, so I have had to give them up. I'd rather put up with the nausea!

Thanks cindymg, yes I have found any foods with salty taste helps with nausea. I have already had my gallbladder removed so thankful not that. It is better than it was. I guess it is a good thing because it certainly keeps me from overheating!!!

Thanks for your input. I too have found greasy foods are worse. The best foods for me tend to be any cooked veggies or casseroles. Usually meat alone will nauseate me for sure. I had my surgery on June 5 and I have lost 55 lbs. I have about 15 more lbs to lose.

I have had this nausea too. Its been a couple of months and I get deathly ill after I eat. 3 or 4 bites. 10-20 minutes later I have to lay down. I never throw up. Its an aweful feeling. Been taking Zofran for over a month and thats not helping at all. I cant figure out if its what im eating. I eat fairly well. But sugar seems to make it worse. Anyone else experiencing this sort of problem. I know im not getting enough calories because im afraid to eat.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
