native_brunette 0 Posted October 18, 2013 I visited with my dr. earlier this week and I just came out and asked which procedure in your medical opinion would work for me ? After all the cards where on the table he told me in all honesty since I lacked in height that the sleeve may not b the best option for me. I'm 5'3 and he said there is a possibility there is not enough room for them to do the sleeve. Anyone ever had this problem arise ? I'm not favoring one procedure over the other it was just a question I thought needed to be answered. Well guess I got my answer. I visit with my surgeon Monday and he will tell me what is best (medically) for me considering all the factors.
LipstickLady 25,682 Posted October 18, 2013 I'm 5'2.5" and my sleeve is awesome. 82 pounds down at 5 months out. One of my favorite sleeved people that I am on a FB group with is just at 5' and she hit 100 pounds lost yesterday or the day before. I call phooey on your doctor. Go with what you feel better about and if he isn't comfortable doing it, find someone who is. 7 nsquared, native_brunette, meamo and 4 others reacted to this

lilijo 187 Posted October 18, 2013 I'm 5'1" and was sleeved one week ago. Agree you should seek another surgeon.
BellaItaliana 57 Posted October 18, 2013 That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard, and sounds like your surgeon is just not comfortable with his skill in doing the sleeve. Get a different surgeon, for sure. I am 5'3" and love my sleeve. Two months out, down 30 lbs.
notmeanymore 629 Posted October 18, 2013 5'4 here and 10 months post-op, 97 pounds lost (so far). The only thing that my height had anything to do with was that my surgeon said I could have the single site incision because I was on the short side. I too call phooey on your doctor. CrissyRing77 232 Posted October 18, 2013 I'm 5' on the dot and my surgeon never even mentioned my height and he put me on the books for Nov 20! Nor have I never heard that mentioned on any of these boards! I'd definitely get a second opinion! Good luck! 1 VSG AJH reacted to this
WildChickie 18 Posted October 18, 2013 I am 4'10" (4'11" on a good day!) I was sleeved on 10/4. I have never had it mention to me that the surgery may not be possible because I am short. I agree with the others and maybe get a second opinion. best of luck and let us know!
Indigo1991 1,612 Posted October 18, 2013 What a lot of nonsense! Find another surgeon - if he actually believes this, who trained him??? 5'2" and very happy with my weight loss....
enigmachik 403 Posted October 18, 2013 I'm 4'10" and this was a non-issue. If this is an issue for your surgeon, you need a new surgeon.
Brighteyes 237 Posted October 19, 2013 Uumm....I am 4'10" and being sleeved in less than two weeks. Surgeon never mentioned my height as an issue. Time for a new surgeon.

No game 14,437 Posted October 19, 2013 I may be reading this wrong... But I think she's talking about her primary care doctor. Because she is meeting with the bariatric surgeon at a later date. To the op it sounds like your primary is not very knowledgable in bariatric surgery. Don't worry the bariatric surgeon can guide you better and as you read here height is not really a deciding factor 1 native_brunette reacted to this
