I just started my 2 wk pre-op diet. The diet says that I can have broth, bouillon or consomme at any time. Does it count if I drain Campbells chicken noodle Soup and just drink the broth with some Water added??? If I can do that I just might get through this phase!!

I would think it would be ok. You might check into some of the low sodium ones. That should be the only difference. You can't read the label and compare fat content or anything, because the chicken noodle Soup label would include the noodles, chicken and veggies in the label.

Have you tried some of the better broths out there? I personally found some that I thought weren't too bad. Not much different than what you are wanting to do...and lots cheaper over all I would imagine, since you don't have waste. Now if you have kids or other family you are going to foist your solids off on, it wouldn't just be wasted, then it makes more sense!!!

Seriously tho, if you are ok with the broth off of the soup---check into some of the broths or stocks available---they are comparable and taste good.

If you are strictly off of food now until surgery---be prepared for the inevitable "liquids in---liquids out" issues with diahrea (however you spell it!!).

2 weeks how excited you must be getting!!!

I, for one, HATE canned broths. I cook with them, but cannot stomach them straight up. When I was in the clear liquid phase, my favorite was Ramen noodles, minus the noodles. I just boiled the Water and added the flavor packet. Yummy. I'm sure the sodium levels were outta site, but you gotta do what you can do to stay semi-nourished during those phases. Good luck!

I was allowed egg drop Soup with no eggs. Every place I called would make it for me that way. That is one soup that is made when ordered, so leaving out the eggs was never a problem. I would order a large and make it into several meals. I also did this post-op. Best wishes on your journey, ~Mandy

No they still add the seasonings and corn starch so it is thick. ~Mandy

Oh Mandy-I had forgotten!!! I used to love this, it felt so thick and filling, and was still ok!!! Mmmmm

It has a chicken base, but is so much better than thin chicken broth.

She's right guys---try it!

I use the egg drop Soup for the days after my fills. It is like real food but still a liquid. I also get this when we order chinese, there aren't many things on the menu that I can have. I don't eat pork, can't do rice or noodles and the breaded stuff is too much for me. So I get an egg drop soup and usually have a bite or two of my dd's chicken and snow peas. ~Mandy

Have you tried scallion beef (most places call it mongolian beef)? I think I'll die if I'm not able to eat that after I get banded, because it is the best stuff out there (at least at the chinese place I love). There is one place in Memphis, though, that makes something called chicken with onions and peppers, and it is incredible. It's sweet, but tangy and has a delayed kick to it (lots of red pepper flakes). It has peanuts in it, too, which give it a nice crunch.

I have a hard time with onion slices. And beef made chinese style seems to tough for me. I have had mongolian chicken and had some problems with the onion pieces. If I order a dish for myself it is usually shrimp with tomatos and peppers. I pick out the peppers but they add a nice flavor. ~Mandy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
