Disappointed with weight loss progress

Recommended Posts

Months out. I am not exercising like I should either. With the small amount of calories intake I thought my weight loss would be more rapidly. :( just looking at the big picture now. I do worry about the honeymoon phase passing and I haven't lost the weight. Needed to lose 100 lbs.

You're ok. At 2.5 months you're still getting used to all the changes. Be kind to yourself and follow the program. Your strength and stamina will return in about month. Mine did. Then you'll be able to exercise. Surgery is not a magic wand, it's a tool along with Water, Protein, exercise, supplements and time. You will succeed ????.

Do you ever consider maybe just tweeting your diet and trying to really get back into basics to jump start some real weight loss. I too lose weight sooooo slow but I found out that with me basically carbs are just the devil with my body and I have to really work out. Which I can't say I'm that bummed about. I loathe working out but I'm kinda happy I'm not just going to be thinner but healthier. I did a lil experiment with myself. I ate how I had been and checked the scale once or twice a week for a month and realized that I did not have any weight loss. Then I decided let me cut back on some carbs and really focus on my weight loss again. In two weeks I dropped 7lbs. So I now know my issue. I hope you find your groove. Good luck!

Thanks for the response, I am not much for carbs, but I will increase Water for sure, supplements still make me nauseous, trying to work it out, fearful of stretching my pouch, I ate a medium banana and worried the rest of the afternoon. Lol. Just never want to be overweight again.

lol in order to "stretch" your pouch, you'd have to be consistently over eating. Once or twice is not going to do that to you. Just like the stomach you had previous before. You did not add the weight on in over a week or two it took years. Its all about Portion Control and self control. It's a hard road to take but I tell people if you had a real addiction to food no shame in getting some help. I go to OA meetings every week. I work out every day but Saturday I log everything even if its bad and I tell myself its ok to mess up but get it together and make it right tomorrow. I'm not ashamed of who I was, I'm proud to know I had the brains and logic to stop the cycle now and get better! Enjoy this experience and don't let it get your down!

I just had my six month check up. My surgeon is pleased with my weight loss. I'm finally in the gym and taking Zumba classes. My weight loss has been really slow the last three months, only eight pounds. It's frustrating to see the scale moving so slowly. Meanwhile, shopping for size 12 is fabulous. The NSV are so many, I'm trying to keep them in the forefront, like jogging up the 4 flights of stairs to the Zumba class, when a few months ago I was stopping each floor and panting when I finally did reach the class.

I loose weight very slowly also. I am 57 and my metabolism before surgery was shot. I have found that if I limit my calories to 800 per day, I lose weight. To do that, I am still relying heavily on Protein Shakes. I use AdvantEdge chocolate fudge shakes. They taste good, have 17 grams of Protein, and are 110 calories. Hope this helps.

My only goal has been to become healthier and develop a healthy lifestyle. I had my surgery in October, have lost 36 lbs, cut my insulin use to less than half, eliminated my blood pressure medication entirely, my gastroparesis is gone, and I feel better and better with each passing day. I view the surgery as a tool to use in becoming a healthier person. I am a Type 1 diabetic on insulin pump therapy. I am pleased with my progress. ???? Sometimes I wonder if numbers stress us out too much.

I too was going crazy with #'s. I finally stopped getting on the scale and go by how my clothes feel. I will be two months out and I'm down 2 clothing sizes. I've tried every fad diet and would lost a little and then my body would plateau for so long that I'd give up and regain everything. Post surgery I think about everything I eat. I have not been perfect but I'm aware of everything I eat now. Appreciate the progress and don't get hung up on the numbers . . . it will drive you crazy.

@@lapier Talk to your doctor. You should be at least walking for a minimum of 30 minutes a day from day 1....

At 2 months my calorie goal was 600 - 800. Anything over 1,000 calories is maintenance level and far too many calories for those of us still losing.

That isn't true for everyone. I was not commanded to be walking 30" a day from Day 1. My calorie target during my weight oss phase is based on my measured RMR. I'm not to go below 1290/day. My surgeon's general recommendation is for 700-900 calories at weeks 6-8, and 900-1200 by week 12. I actually had my RMR tested and it had slowed, so the exercise physiologist and my surgeon don't want me going below my RMR so I don't slow it down even further.

I'm losing 6-8 lbs/month, inches as well as lbs., maintaining my lean mass, and feeling great. I'll take it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
