suzi 0 Posted March 4, 2007 Check with your plastic surgeon about being a skin donor. The skin is one of the most important organs of the body and skin is badly needed all the time for grafts. I saw this suggestion smewhere on the web while I was researching weight loss surgery, though I can't find it again, of course. However, it's worth asking about. Possible answers are yes, no, and maybe.
josephine 1 Posted March 4, 2007 I also heard at one time that burned patients need our skin but they found that streched out skin does no good for patients. It makes sense to me. Josephine
Spydr 0 Posted March 6, 2007 Jack you crack me up! We cut 7 lbs of skin off my belly but it is nothing that anyone would want!
Dr.JLo 1 Posted January 19, 2008 The skin can be used for many purposes, regardless of it's stretched out condition. Check Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation and see if your PS participates.
mbanja 1 Posted January 19, 2008 Dr.J maybe you can answer this question for me. My friend has lost a ton of weight, on her own God Bless her, and her sister said that she heard from one of the horses mouths that a burn foundation here in GA would do her PS surgery for free so that they could use the skin for grafting. I have tried to research this online but to no avail. Is this heard of? Can they really use it, and if so would they do it for FREE?
Dr.JLo 1 Posted January 20, 2008 Hi. As I'd mentioned in another post, it is illegal to sell human body parts or trade them for anything of value...like free surgery. There is a foundation that offer information about this: Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation.
