Mine said as soon I was off pain meds, and when I felt like I could. I drove within a week (even though I didn't take pain meds after 24 hours)

check and see what your doc's guidelines are!

Mine was around 9 days. I had the 24 hrs off pain med rule. I honestly had no interest going anywhere.

Yup, as soon as off pain meds.

I could drive as soon as I was off the good drugs, but I couldn't really sit up for a while - twisting and sliding into the driver's seat was a bit too cramped as well. And as Macy6 mentioned, I too had no desire to go anywhere! I stayed on the couch recliner and healed for as long as possible. :)

My doc was 14 days in case the airbag went off in an accident! Oh ye of little faith, not sure what he'd heard about my driving ;-)

Also check that your insurance covers you in the recovery period.

I felt fine so I drove the Saturday after my surgery that past Monday, five days postop. I had good reason- there was a candle sale I had to go to, my mother was driving me around but chose to share when she lost her virginity with the cable guy the night before (can you say mortified- me and the cable guy), and I couldn't stand waiting for someone to come to pick me up and take me where I wanted to go. Too independent for that. But I was also never on any narcotic postop- just Toradol and children's Tylenol, so that would've played a part in my decision if that were the case.

We were sleeved on Friday and I drove us home for several hours on Sunday. No biggie.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
