Recommended Posts

Just to put a feeler out there..does anyone crave salt? I do all the time for first time ever. Never have been a big salt person..Never struggled with high blood pressure etc.

Cravings (and folks are different in what they crave) is not uncommon!

Just on general principles, I say "If I crave, I don't want". It's like ANY food or restaurant commercial on TV... If on TV, it's OFF my plan!

Trying to beat my evil craving brain into submission!

I crave foods I shouldn't eat.( cheese and salty-crunchy anything) Arts 137, you and I may share a brain. I always agree with your posts. At any rate, I am wondering about those restaurant commercials and how they will affect me post-surgery. As of right now, I am trying to figure out how to combat them. They always give me the munchies!

I have only craved salt once, specifically salty potato chips. Looking back it was a time that I was probably really dehydrated and missing some basic electrolytes (thank you Miami heat). I generally shy away from anything salty which is why I thought it was so odd at the time. If you are craving it maybe look at getting some good electrolytes in.

I crave salty chips too. Want the crunch. I'm 3 months out. Never really cared for chips before but had a real sweet tooth. Now I dont really crave sweets. Thought that would never happen.

Thanks teach! I deal with 'em by (and I am serious) having a mental list of things I see on TV. If I have seen it on TV I will NOT eat it. I am a junkie. I can't do things half way. When I dose, I overdose. Sad but true.

And for those seeking a "crunch", try celery :-)

I find dried edamame satisfy my need for a salty crunch while giving me good amounts of Protein and Fiber. May be worth trying

Where can I find it?

I know Amazon has it : http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1/177-2932750-6494661?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Edamame

I suspect whole foods, trader joes, central market etc do too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
