An "Almost" Chocolate Chip Cookie Moment

Recommended Posts

I just found myself wandering into the 3rd floor kitchen to see what kind of yumminess abounds. I came upon a basket of left over Panera Cookies and had instant mouth Water. So, of course, I grabbed one and moved toward the stairway to head back to my office. But then, I stopped and thought to myself - is this really worth the cravings you are going to feel for the rest of the day? So, I went back, grabbed another one and took them to a couple of guys that share an office who love anything baked good. They were happy and I felt so good for making that mental transition. It's interesting how those conversations occur in the head and how many times I find it too easy to give in to the big voice that says, "it's just one cookie". I had to dig deep to hear that little voice reminding me of the longer term impact. I wonder how many other people deal with this same internal dialogue and how they overcome these difficult decisions.

Man I do! I have several talking points I use with myself:

There are a lot of these in the world. I don't have to have this now. It will be there later.

If I eat this I will want more and it will be hard to stop.

I can have X instead.

I will feel bad after I eat this ( mostly dairy, such as creamy Desserts or foods with a lot of grease).

I like myself at this size and I want to stay here.

All the time! Sometimes I allow myself a small treat if it's something special but all myself "off the ledge" 95% of the time.

As Lynda said, I like "me" and after regaining below goal weight, I'm not LEAVING!!' :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
