Surgery a year ago and have not lost much!

Recommended Posts

It's been a year since my surgery and I only lost 50lbs! I have been eating very good and I'm scared! I don't want to go back to the weight I had and scared I'm making my stomach stretch and making it bigger! Right now I can eat a whole hamburger, a few weeks after my surgery I couldn't, I barely would eat a 1/4 and I would be very full! With time I feel I'm able to eat more and more! I don't know what to do! I'm trying to exercise as much as I can and eating somewhat good! I'm at this alone and don't have no one to talk too! Am I the only one going through this problem?

Im sorry your having so much trouble. I cannot eat a whole hamburger and Im 10 months post op. What size bougie did you get? I think you need to go on a diet for three days to test the pouch size? Im not sure exactly what it is but have read about it a couple times here on this website. My advise would be to go back to the basics. Remove any bread, rice, sweets bad food from your house. When its there you will eat it! Eat Protein first then vegetables only, do this for about a month . After that slowly and in minimal amount reintroduce carbs. Pick healthy ones like potatoes, sweet potatoes, whole grain rice ect...Try to limit any fattening stuff to once a week only and 1 thing. Measure your food using a scale and measuring cups. If you want to eat something eat only the serving suggestions. If you feel hungry between meals drink Water. signal for thirst can feel like hunger but it is not. Another thing I have noticed is acid can also make me feel hungry. Make sure your not feeling that and confusing the feelings. Try to keep Protein at 70 or more grams a day, Calories at 800 Max if you have allot more weight to lose. Drink 64 or more ounces of Water a day. Take your Vitamins daily! Start a new exercise rutein. 30 minutes 3-5 days a week. Pick something you like. Dancing, tennis, swimming, yoga, zumba ect....Take all the negative thoughts throw them out the door and start a new day.Good luck Stay strong and NEVER give up!

Please add your starting weight and what you are eating now :)

Protein and veggies! You can't go wrong!

The sleeve can stretch but not back to its original size so if you stick to dense protein that should keep you satisfied.

Why the ensure drink? That more of a Meal Replacement rather than a protein supplement

Try tracking your intake with myfitnesspal or just write it down in a journal. You may be eating more calories than you think. Good luck with your journey.

If you like pre made premier Protein Shakes are good 30 grams Protein and 160 calories.

At one year out though you can easily get your protein from foods. Unless you like taking a shake for a meal that is.

Ensure is a horrible idea and I am a nurse telling you that. We use it to fatten up patients. On top of food I can see why you may not be loosing weight. Give up the Ensure and go back to basics. Are you seeing your Dr. and a nutritionist? You may need to go back and see one, start over again. I hope by next year you will have shed 100 pounds.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
