Ree 215 Posted October 16, 2013 So I finally had my last NUT appointment today and she cleared me for the surgery, Yay! She said someone will be calling me in a few days to set up an appointment. Now this appointment I'm assuming is with the surgeon, right? Now that I am done with my 6 months of NUT visits, how soon will my surgery date be? I'm asking because I'm really hoping it's before December 31st since I have already met my out of pocket expenses for insurance this year. It starts up new again in January and it'll end up costing a lot more money out of pocket if I have to wait till January for the surgery. In your experience how long did it take from last NUT visit to surgery date?
LBD 121 Posted October 16, 2013 Just had my surgery today and the whole process for me, from the seminar on took about two months, but it really depends on what insurance you have. I have UHC choice plus with a 3,000 out of pocket max, and there were lots of pre-op requirements and testing which cost a bunch even before the surgery costs. Good luck with everything! Justinh125 472 Posted October 16, 2013 If you're self-pay, they'll do it whenever you want, because (ironically,) only the people whose insurance won't pay have to pay the full "sticker price." If you have insurance, they all pay a negotiated rate that is frequently less than half of the listed cost. So with self-pay, they're getting a lot more money from you, and they are much more willing to play by your rules instead of theirs. I got to go 3 months ahead of people who had been waiting much longer than me, but I literally paid the price. I'll still undoubtedly end up saving more than I paid in reduced healthcare costs for the rest of my life. Not to mention not having to shop at "fat men" clothing stores anymore. kvdme 64 Posted October 16, 2013 I was sleeved 10 days after they called, pretty quick so expect it but they also have voice of dates up to two months out I just took the quickest one.
BrownDoesAll 409 Posted October 16, 2013 My suggestion.. don't wait for them to call you. My experience, the surgeon's office is very busy and the more you take the time to follow up with them the better you'll be. I always started by saying " I hate to be a pain but... "
Ree 215 Posted October 17, 2013 They called today (well Wednesday) and said the only thing they are waiting on is the report for the sleep study, so I have to call the sleep center tomorrow and request they fax over that information. I asked the lady on the phone how long will it take before I get a surgery date and she said that she can schedule me an appointment for next week if she gets the sleep study report tomorrow and then the doctor schedules that surgery about a month out from that date. So I'm probably look at sometime around Thanksgiving for the surgery *I think*.

I agree and say stay on top of them. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, but don't over do it either. I think I initially emailed my PCP 10 times in a row to put in my referral because she was moving too slowly lol. And she told me to stop with the emails. But it did get my referral in ASAP

I'm thinking no matter what I won't be able to enjoy a thanksgiving dinner.
SeriouslyChange 319 Posted October 17, 2013 I went through Kaiser in Northern California. 24 hr liquids only and lighter meals starting 3 days before. Every surgeon is different, so yours may or may not require a liquid diet
Justinh125 472 Posted October 17, 2013 My suggestion.. don't wait for them to call you. These are wise words!!! You will be a patient, but also a "customer" of sorts. You would just be calling to tell them that you want to purchase the "product" that they sell....what business wouldn't want that??
