What was your first solid meal postop?

Recommended Posts

Salmon and mashed potatoes

This is my ideal meal either that or rotisserie chicken and mash or just turkey meatballs. Cannot wait to chew again!!!!!!

I HATE fish lol BUT that was my first meal because I wasn't allowed any other meat the first week. They said fish was the softest meat to try at first, and I was scared to hurt my sleeve. Im not eating fish anymore. Now I mainly stick with chicken as my main Protein source.

Thank you Jdmama911. I guess I may have to bite the bullet and go for it at first... EWWW! LOL!

Can you chew sugarfree gum to get the effect of chewing? How about the "jockey diet" where you chew meat but then spit it in a trash can and just ingest the juices. I'm scared of this phase!

Not suppose to chew gum in the beginning because it gets the gastric juices flowing. At least that's what I was told.

Not being able to chew is brutal but honestly I'm just going to follow dr's orders. I know I'll be able to eat again so cheating/bending the rules doesn't seem worth it

You know everyone says no but honestly, just don't swallow it. Surgeons don't want you to chew because you might swallow and it could be problematic.

I was never told not to chew gum. There is nothing wrong with it IMHO. We're grown ups. Most of us know not to swallow our gum, LOL.

Couldn't wait till morning. I think that's bad but after 5 weeks of liquids, I indulged. My first meal consisted of a garlic and herb laughing cow cheese and the large claw portion if two snow crab legs. The food went down easily with no problems! Now I am waiting to drink, that is going to be the thing I have to work on. Not drinking with my meal!

My doctor advised no chewing of gum for the first month due to swelling of the stoma!

Day 1 post op in the car coming home from the hospital I popped a piece of gum in my mouth to freshen up my breath before I got home and accidentally swallowed it. No more gum for me... -_-

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
