I haven't had my surgery , but I'm expecting to have it this Dec 2013. So, my question is how long did it take to recover and return to work?

I had my surgery on Sept 24 and returned to work on Oct 7. I was lucky there was really not much pain, just sore like after my gallbladder surgery. I have not had any nausea or vomiting except for yesterday but that was my fault. I ate some baked fish, smushed it up, but my new tummy was not ready for that. It came back up in the parking lot of Denny's where I ate it. Will be staying away from fish for a while. Best of luck on your surgery.

I was sleeved sept 10th & went back to work Sept 23. I have a desk job so there's not much movement. I was sore & tired the first couple of days but I don't think I went back too soon. Good luck to you!

I have a very sedentary desk job and was ready to go back on day 10. I would have been off about a week longer if I had to any kind of manual work. Squatting, lifting and bending were not painful, but not recommended by my doctor.

Last December I had surgery on Tuesday the 11th and returned to work Monday the 17th. I was a little fatigued at the end of the day, but no pain or discomfort. I work in an office only a few miles from my home.

I was sleeved May 13 and returned to work June 3. My surgeon makes people stay off at least 2 weeks (2 and some, because it's two weeks from release, not date of surgery). I stayed off a little longer so that I wouldn't be starting work on the first day of a new diet phase - I strongly recommend planning on that - either be adjusted to working before you start a phase, or start the phase and then adjust to working.

I had three phases - liquid, puree, and soft. I started back once I was on puree - I made one recipe, popped it in ice cube trays and had lunch for work for the whole time I was on puree!

My job requires me to be up and moving, as well as at my desk. I don't do heavy lifting too often, and I had been in good shape from the pre-op diet and exercise before surgery. Everyone is different - listen to your body.

Sleeved February 2013. Surgery on Monday - back to work the following Monday (desk job). But I was SO TIRED during week 2....wish I would have taken two weeks off to heal properly. Same level of discomfort as C-section or gall bladder for me, but much more tired than the other procedures.

5 days for me. Desk job so not much exertion. I think it helped me take mind off the whole thing and get back to normal.

You probably don't need more than a week tops. Just have to watch the bending over and making sure you are getting your water/protein drinks in. I had pain while driving that lasted for 3 weeks and then it disappeared as fast it came. Other than that I was actually feeling great a week out.

(As someone mentioned above there is a high level of fatigue so make sure you get lots of sleep when you can)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
