What % of excess weight loss?

What percentage of excess weight did you lose before the weight loss stopped? Or before maintenance ?

That is a difficult question to answer because everyone may have a different understanding of what "excess weight" is and will be difficult to quantify.

Does excess weight mean weight as it relates to goal? If so, then I lost about 140% as my original goal was 200#, but the lowest I saw the scale was 159, which was too low for me so I got myself up to the 185 and am holding there, so that would then be around 120%.

Does excess weight mean as it relates to fat? Even at 159 I still had some fat ... I think ... or was it just excess skin? But even now at 185 I definitely have some fat, so I would say I would be at 80% excess weight loss.

Forgot to add, 27 months post-op. Got to 185 initially in 8 months. Was at 159 at 14 months. Got back to 185 at 19 months.

My doctor said, on average, you should expect to lose about 60% of your excess weight.

If I am 250 and I'm supposed to be 140, my excess weight is 110 pounds - I should expect to loose 66 pounds, down to 184.

I hope I'm above average!!!!!! :-)

Im about 3 pounds from my goal but that was my personal goal, my surgeons goal was another 12 pounds past that. That would put me at 130 and that might be too skinny for me. Once I get to goal Ill be cruising the forum posts on how to maintain if my body doesnt stop losing on its own. Basically Ill be upping my calories with good fats (nuts, avocado, etc. and lean proteins).

Congrats on being newly sleeved. Its so exciting and the excitement still hasnt warn off for me 10 months out. I still have to double take sometimes when I look in the mirror. I hope your healing goes well. My best advice for someone early out is to sip sip sip. I cant tell you the importance of staying hydrated. Dehydration is a nasty little monster. If you have troubles with cold liquids, try warm Decaf tea. That did the trick for me. To this day I prefer a warm beverage to a cold one for sure.

I was told I would lose 70-80% of excess weight which will be 87-102 pounds of the 125 over. I am already at 84 pounds loss at 6 months out. But I think I run about average. It's really hard to compare to others.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
