Almost 50 lbs down and I'm still struggling to Celebrate as I'm still wearing the same clothes and comments about my losses are rare. But I noticed something this morning, something I can do now that I could not before, and now I'm feeling upbeat again. After I started thinking about it, SEVERAL things came to mind.

1. I can trim my toenails easily!

2. I can put my blue jeans on while standing up, and without leaning against anything!

3. I can reach, and dry, EVERY BODY PART after showering!

4. I can lace up my shoes now (as opposed to leaving them loosely laced up and slipping them on and off)!

Woo Hoo! Here's hoping you'll share what you can do now as well!

Bea, such a good post! Just wanted to let you know this time last week I was having the same feelings about being down almost 50 and still in a size 20. Don't know what happened but it was like overnight something changed and I was able to wear a size 18 skirt no problem last Thursday to work and even wore a 16 dress this weekend. It's going to happen to you, too! I just know it!

I can stand & walk for much longer now before I need to sit down, which is a huge relief for me. :)

I am able to enjoy food, again. I was just thinking this weekend about how nice it is to be able to eat responsibly. Just being able to eat and enjoy food without overindulging is such a great gift of this surgery.

I used to eat until I was tired. Not just satisfied, not full, but tired. The sleeve is my off switch - a reminder to put down the fork. I am so thankful for it.

You are so right!!! I thought that the other day. I now choose a bite of one dessert where before I would want to pick at a lot of different ones. An I was so proud of myself that instead of eating a slider with bun I actually pushed all of the bread aside. That might seem like a little step but it's a big behavior modifier for me.

I have started running! Not very far and not very fast, but I can actually run now which is amazing to me because the last time I ran was in high school. My goal is to compete next summer with my hubby in a sprint triathlon. I have a LONG way to go, both with fitness and weight loss, but I am at least on the path to reaching that goal.

That's awesome. I bet you feel great!

I did not get a lot of comments or lose any clothing sizes till I hit 57 lbs then it kinda happened over night.

It will come don't worry!

I can look in a mirror without being horrified.

Yes! Or walking up to a mirror and being ok.

I remember walking up to things like a store or our local library and watching myself in the glass reflection and seeing a mass of flesh rubbing and uncomfortable coming closer and closer :(

I to am able to do all the things that you said and more. I was finally able to walk 100 yards and change my own rifle target. That may not sound like much but for me it was everything. So congrats to you for your achievements.

Cross my legs under lowish tables, not cringe when I see that someone tagged me in a picture on Facebook and my heart beating wildly while I brought the picture up, hoping it was shoulders up, sitting in rickety looking chairs, enjoying clothes shopping more, and many more! I'm at 60% goal and am so excited to get to goal and see what else I can do.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
