So I finally applied for horizon today since my school insurance doesn't cover bariatric surgery but horizon does.. Anyone knows if horizon blue cross blue shoes epo plus makes you wait the 3months/6months before approved? Please please please share.... I'm in the process f getting cleared from my cardiologist only 3 more tests to go woohooo :) .. I found out that I have a little high cholesterol and blood pressure. I am finally a BMI of 35.5... This should be enough right? I'm ready for my sleeve today too but I will have to probably wait grr

BMI of 35.5..

donaboss

you wrote this about 6 weeks ago :o

i can be slow to respond :D

hope you are still hanging around :)

having a BMI of 35.5 is on the low side for being approved :(

but, many others have been approved and you have comorbities too

things can be crazy

its like insurance wants you to weigh more (having a higher bmi) and have many physical problems

then they can decide if you are fat enough and sick enough to have WLS!!!!

hope things went/go well with insurance

good luck

kathy

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
