November surgery... Hopefully

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm Kelly. I've never participated in any online forums or anything like this. But it's the night before what will hopefully be my last appt with my nutritionist before she signs off on surgery. Our goal date is early November. Current status... Nervous that I won't be at goal weight tomorrow. I was supposed to have lost half of pre-op weight loss goal of 10lbs.

I'm so ready for this surgery and just want to keep moving forward.

Welcome, Kelly! I'm also hoping to be a November sleever. I've completed nearly all of my insurance requirements -- just have that same final nutritionist appointment. My stuff will hopefully be submitted to insurance on November 5th (the last day I see the NUT).

I'm sorry you're concerned you haven't lost the required weight. What will happen if you haven't? One more appointment? I'm actually in the opposite boat -- I haven't lost much since my first visit, maybe 8-9 pounds, but the NUT told me not to lose any more until I'm submitted to insurance. My starting BMI was 41.1, and is now 40 and change, She's worried if I drop any more, insurance may balk since I don't have the automatic comorbidities. (I have comorbidities, just not the ones that qualify me for surgery without appeal.) I'm in this very weird place of not being able to gain *or* lose, which feels crazy and frustrating.

Good luck tomorrow! I'm anxious to hear how things go, and excited to watch your journey!!

Thanks! I lost more weight than expected and nutritionist signed off. Just some paperwork to finish this week and hoping to get the date soon. Shooting for mid November. I am ready!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
