Is anyone able to eat chicken & grapes post op?

Recommended Posts

I know it sounds CRAZY..but today I took a trip to Sams Club to do my shopping and as I walked around it was like I was at a funeral. Now what makes this even more strange is I am still preop..but as I approach scheduling my surgery I am full of doubts & irrational fears..like never being able to digest certain food...as I read through the site the one food continues to be a issue is chicken (I'm just throwing grapes in for the hell of it since my NUT said they can be problematic)..so PLEAAAASSSSEE tell me someone can get chicken through thier sleeve & how long post op did it take (and yes I already know the disclaimer-EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT) I just don't know if I can live without the HOLY bird! O_o

Well... I've been eating chicken since the puréed stage. Yep folks I puréed my chicken and loved it :D

I eat chicken almost daily. In the beginning mostly I boiled my chicken (very moist that way)

And would shred it to use during the week.

I also eat it slow roasted too.

I'm 1 month post op and can digest chicken. However it seems that 'cooked' chicken is pretty hard to digest and gets me nauseated. I think I need a bit more time to adjust. Chicken patty works alright though. It depends. Basicly if the chicken isn't "hard" it works ok, otherwise it sits inside my stomach like stones

I also devour chicken in various versions. It sits easier on my sleeve than hamburger, pork chops, steak, but not as good as fish. The moisture content of meats make them easier to take so in casseroles is the best. Grapes are great especially if the are fresh, juicy, and crisp.

chicken is pretty much the only meat i can eat since surgery. Red meats are harder to digest.

No problems with any of it. I tend to lean towards chicken thighs since my chicken breasts are always over cooked LOL

Heck yeah, I eat EVERYTHING I did pre-op just half as much, and make wiser decesions. 26 months post-op now.

chicken is my number one protein- I have no problems with it at all. I started eating chicken as soon as I got to the soft food stage. I can also eat grapes without any issue, but if the skin is tough like on muscadine grapes, I don't eat the skin.

I been eating chicken since the solid stage, which was about 8 week after surgery. I eat all the time now...in the crock pot or roasted is the best but I can do grilled if not over cooked. Fish is easier but I can do steak if med or med-rare. I can't do pork and for the longest time I couldn't do tuna in a can but at 18 months suddenly I can. My nut said, if you can't do a certain food now don't worry, try again in 30 days. I still can't do grapes and I am 20 months out.

I am 4 months post op and have been eating both for a long time. Grapes have never given me trouble. I love chicken salad with grapes in it. Yummy!

Yes I can eat chicken and grapes, and lots of the same things I could eat pre-op, I haven't really had a problem with anything once I was healed up from the surgery. You'll be fine.

Been eating chicken since pureed stage with no problem. Grapes I just had a couple. No problem there. So far bread and cabbage are the only things that have given me any grief. And its been a while on the cabbage so I could probably eat that just fine now.

I'm 1 month and 4 days post-op and while grapes have not been a problem at all, chicken took some re-adjusting. As long as it's moist and I'm careful about how much I eat, I seem to be fine. Dry chicken though or even baked chicken feels like my esophagus is choking, gagging, and puking all at once. Ideally it will get better. When I was first sleeved I also felt like the grocery store was a funeral, but after just a few weeks I feel like things are improving. It's really nice to be able to enjoy a few bites of something and be completely over it without a desire to eat any more. I feel like I can enjoy food without the misery of know I'm going to gain weight if I eat it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
