3 months post op this week

Recommended Posts

I'm 3 months post op this week. I'm down 35 lbs. The day before surgery I was 244. Looking, feeling great. Walked a 5k with my family yesterday and bought a nice bike and averaging 4-5 miles a day at a moderate pace. I keep track of my food with my fitnesspal. I feel like I'm doing everything right ... well, some days not enough Protein but

Here is my problem though and I need support not judgement. I am keeping track of all my food but eat pretty much anything I want. I ate a slice of pizza for example. I counted the calories but I ate it and had no issues. Same thing with sushi rolls. My sleeve can tolerate it. I ate about 5 pieces.i don't know why I can eat a good amount at one sitting, maybe cause I eat slow??? Why do I feel like I'm doing something wrong or abusing my sleeve? I guess cause I see people eating 2 tablespoons of food and then barfing? I don't know. I also drink coffee every morning with sweet and low and sugar free Creamer. No issues.

I guess I'm lucky but secretly wanted to be able to eat nothing and have pain like that would help me more? This crap is hard. Im not going to lie, i wanted it to be easier. I have restriction, don't get me wrong and hunger is nothing like it used to be but I I want to be the eat 2 tablespoon person and I'm not. I know it's stupid but I just don't know how to get rid of this feeling of animosity to fellow sleeves who can't eat anything and are dropping weight so fast.

I'm slow, steady and freaking out. I feel like I'm going to be an anorexic or something simply out of fear. I'm also starting to crave exercise in place of food not cause I love it but feel guilty if I don't do it.

Does anyone have similar psychotic thoughts?

I won't judge you. Everyone is different. Let me ask you a question - how many pieces of pizza did you eat at one sitting before your sleeve? Or sushi rolls? Surely it's a lot less now, right?

And yes, it could be because you eat slowly. How long does it take to eat those things you mentioned? Also, are you drinking liquid before, during or after your meal?

Personally, I think those who are 3 months out and eating 2 tablespoons then vomiting have something wrong like a stricture or something.

35 pounds in 3 months is good. That's an average of three pounds per week which is a very good rate of weight loss.

Please don't despair. You are losing at a good pace. AND you are doing healthy things like walking and riding.

I'm 2.5 months out and down 30 after Dougherty. 50 all together. I eat small portions. I too had pizza but after 3 bites it was not agreeing with me. Too much spicy. I was full. I try and stay away from breads in such. I fill up on meat veggies. fruit.< /p>

Ok no judgement here, but if you want to lose weight any faster you have to adjust the things you are eating. Some of the things you are eating will go down easier and not give you that restricted feeling that the Protein will give you. Carbs are not as dense as Proteins and its easier to eat more of them and not feel full.(This is what my NUT told me). Now some of us here just lose weight more slowly than others and that's ok. Before eating that piece of pizza have an ounce or two of protein(chicken or beef or something like that) and then see if you can eat the pizza. Same thing with the sushi, it's mostly rice which for some people is a problem and others not so much, but it is a carb and just won't fill you up. Hope this helps.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
