i feel like ive screwed up the surgery!

Recommended Posts

Okay...so ever since surgery life has been tough. Post op recovery has had some complications. One of the issues i have had is: not being able to eat. Everything i ate made me feel sick. So for a whole month i have lived off of Tomato Soup and popsicles. My calorie count averaged around 200 calories. Protein was nowhere near where it should have been. Well..i finally figured out that my issues with getting ill from eating had to do with not having enough digestive enzymes..so once i started taking a complete digestive enzyme and Probiotics and lactase, i was FINALLY able to eat around 50 grams of protein and get in 800 calories. This morning i stepped on the scale and it says ive gained a pound..granted ive lost 40 pounds in a month and two weeks but still.. im having apanic attack worrying that ive screwed up my metabolism due to not being able to eat and im deathly afraid of gaining weight...im sooo worried that this surgery isnt goingto help and im going to keep on gaining..this is the lowest weight ive been and this surgery is a last chance for a healthier life...i dont want it to be ruined ...what do i do? How did you get down to goal?

If you're surgery was 6 weeks ago I don't think you've screwed up your metabolism in that length of time even with the complications you've had.

The first 2 weeks I was averaging 250-300 cals per day.

Just stick with your guidelines and the weight will come off.

There may be days or weeks that the scale stands still but it will kick in again.

Your body needs to adjust periodically and you've lost a large amount of weight already in a relatively short time.

Good luck on your journey!

Your body is just working it's way out again. I doubt you ruined it. Probably gaining some muscle back. If you lived off Tomato Soup and popsicles you are going to lose muscle and not just fat. Hopefully it will balance itself out.

I'm glad that you were finally able to start getting in enough food. Relax and try not to worry about the gain of a pound. During the last month you have severely depleted your body of nutrients, minerals, Protein, etc. It is perfectly normal that you might gain a few pounds when you start getting in the amount of food that you should be getting. It's also to be expected that you might go several days or even a week or more and not lose much weight before you start losing again. And you will start losing again.

You have not caused long-term harm to your metabolism, but you have probably lost some muscle during this time. It will be important that you start exercising if you haven't been.

It is hard not to overanalyze and worry that "this won't work either". However, I'm sure if you think about it logically, common sense will prevail and you will realize that there is no way you will gain weight eating 800 calories a day. That's what I tell myself when it happens to me ;) Like this morning, when I gained 2 pounds after a week of 800 calories a day, and one day of 1700 calories (had 2 parties yesterday). There is no way an extra 900 calories resulted in a 2 pound gain - that would have required 7000 extra calories, and it would have take a few days to show up. It's Water. I am starting realize that one day of "overeating" won't ruin anything. It's life, and it's what I do for the long haul that makes the difference. I think you'll find that too! You'll do great.

You've lost 40 pounds in four weeks and improved your eating habits.

Take some deep breaths and ENJOY the journey.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
