I just have to say that I'm so sacred this surgery isn't going to help me, I feel like I always try to eat right but with such a busy life it's so hard! My surgery date was 8/1/13 and I have only lost 35lbs. I'm just so scared all the time, like what if I'm not eating right, or what if I'm eating too much. Eating is very painful for me but I still eat, I live every day feeling nauseous and can't throw up no matter how hard I try. I started working out at curves and feel that that is a good thing, but feel like it's not enough. I am always scared I am stretching my stomach out. I really dont want to have gone through everything to fail again. Tonight I ate a little piece off thin pepperoni pizza & 2 little wings, then think to myself hhhuummm... should I be able to eat that much and as I am writing this wish so bad I could puke. I am writing this here cause I hope someone will get what I'm saying our understand, so please don't be mean or talk rude to me I do that enough to myself. Thank you for letting me vent!

If you believe it won't help you it won't. You have to have positive thoughts and faith that you can work it. It's a tool and the weight loss depends on your efforts, not on the sleeve.

thats terrific

you are right on target with your weight loss

some people might have lost more than you, others less

the one thing we all have in common is that we're all different :o

you are sooooo early post op - your tummy is still healing

please only eat soft food, maybe some solids too per doc/NUT

you know you shouldn't be eating pizza, wings or stuff like that :angry:

so i won't mention it :o

the expression is.............

just because you can, doesn't mean you should

talk to your NUT/surgeon

go to a support group where you'll meet other sleevers

you know what to do and what NOT to do

this surgery will/does work, as long as you follow the rules

please don't sabatoge yourself now

thinking, you've never had success before, so why now????

the reason now, is you have a helper in the sleeve

your tummy is so little - its "supposed" to hold only a small amount of food

you don't vomit if you eat too much?????

many people don't

don't push yourself to get sick

i know you can do this - got to mentally tell yourself that "this time you will do it"

you can and will do it!!!!!

Aw! I'm so sorry you are feeling so bad. I'm only 9 days post op but my question would be, does your dr know how nauseous you are after eating? That sounds terrible and not right. I hope u find some answers soon and feel better. I think it's great u are working out. Don't be discouraged. I find planning ahead is my friend, so maybe try that if you're worried about eating poorly. Every once in awhile a treat is ok in my opinion so don't beat yourself up too much.

First thing - u have done a great thing for urself - u took control by getting sleeved. It's a brave thing to do. So there's no need for u to be scared, u have shown courage so far, so breathe and look at what's bothering u...

Eating right comes from being organised, irrespective of being busy. I've worked 13 out of last 14 days, so I know where u r coming from but there's always time to shop for the right food.

If eating is painful, check out if u r eating bites that are too big, not chewing enough, eating too fast - or simply eating too much. Try changing how u eat and see if that helps.

Stop trying to throw up. If ur body won't give up the food, u will do damage if u try to make it....and it's unlikely u r stretching ur sleeve, u have to eat excessive amounts regularly over a long period ;-)

U r exercising - shut off the negative voice in ur head telling u it's not enough - it's enough for now. We may all want to aim for perfection, but doing the best we can is good enough....

As for failing many of us on here are past masters at that. But u now have ur sleeve. Work with it, let it do its job and u do yours - eat well, eat regularly, keep moving and drink ur liquids. Ur weight loss is great, give ur body - and urself - a chance before u right either off.

So in summary, don't give up, stick with the plan and stop beating urself up. And remember, u r not alone, we r all here for u and its ok to feel scared but push through it, u can do this!

35 lbs in 2 months seems like a lot to me! Have you ever lost that much weight in that time period before your surgery? Probably not, at least I never did. Pat yourself on the back for the great weight loss and keep a positive attitude. I bet your clothes already fit better and you have more energy that before.

Jamie I was sleeved a week after you on August 7th, I have lost about 28 lbs. I am happy with this it is regular and I have had no stalls yet. I had a hiatus hernia repair at the same time which has given me some pain, sort of, when eating. However that is settling down now finally. However I spend quite a lot of my day feeling just ghastly and sometimes nauseous as well. I am going to see my surgeon on October 23rd and will discuss this with him then.

In another thread, a few weeks ago someone posted amounts we should expect to eat and I found this really helpful, I wrote it down and will repeat it for you.

By 8-10 weeks we should be able to eat 1/2 Cup of food at each meal

By 16 weeks 3/4 Cup

By 20 weeks 1 Cup

The breakdown of the 1Cup should be 1/2 Protein, 1/4 veges and 1/4 carbs or fruit.< /p>

I am still concentrating on Protein so get very little veges or fruit and really can only manage 1/3 cup so far. I am also finding that Water makes me feel worse, so I am putting a sugar free flavour in and can still not get enough in each day. Multi Vitamins make me nauseous as well so I now have the gummies.< /p>

So you are not alone, but we should talk to our surgeons about the nausea.

I'm in the same boat. I think that it's a process and you need to use your tools and you will be fine.

I was sleeved on 8/6 and am down 30 pounds since surgery......figure I'm a slow loser (I'm happy with the weight loss)......maybe you're eating too much or too fast......try taking smaller bites (if possible) and slowing down.......I'm still trying to find that point before one bite is too much.....I can drink rather well at this point, but eating is still only a few bites at a time......good luck.....

Thank you everyone for your encouragement, it really means alot. I also had a hiatal hernia repair and that has caused lots of problems and pain, it landed me back in the hospital for a week. I know what needs to be done just need to do it, I think we all do. Sometimes I get a little sad that I cant easy the same stuff I use to, but I guess that's part of my new life. I hadn't seen before how much we should be eating at what stages that's very good to know. I don't know about anyone else but I am so burnt out on Protein Shakes, greek yogurt, and cottage cheese it's crazy lol! So I guess I needed to find new healthy things to eat, any ideas?

CONGRATS ON THE WEIGHT LOSS. 35 lbs in 2 months is HUGE!!!!!!! Be proud of yourself!!!!!

If you just had surgery you should not be eating pizza or chicken wings. Usually in a sleeve your indicator of OVEREATING - is when you feel nauseated and uncomfortable. Most times you should be able to vomit easily. Run a little Water, rinse your mouth out - swallowing a little that will further overflow the pouch and make it easy to release. This should not be a normal occur acne but I do know how uncomfortable it feels when you need to vomit and can't.

Know your limits. Measure your food. Chart your food plan for the day. PROTECT YOUR POUCH!!!!

Your sleeve can take you anywhere you want to go if you trust it and let it, but you have to be committed to the changes it will require you to make. Stay away from bread and greasy foods it makes you feel and react awful!!!

Try to find at least a little time one day a week to prepare and divide up some food for the week that you can grab and eat or grab and go. I bought a pack of 1/2 cup glad ware for less than $3. I measure out low carb chili or refried Beans or meat with a little veggie and stack them up in the frig and freezer. I buy individual greek yogurts. I even have some of my Protein powder pre-scooped into baggies and little plastic containers because sometimes I buy milk or iced coffee on the go and stir them in, or if I grab a shaker cup that makes it even easier.

Another thing- since I had this surgery time goes very slowly. Like yesterday i was thinking I have been stalled for MONTHS and so I looked at the calendar and it was almost one month- yea thats a long time but it felt like forever. I printed out a one page whole year calendar to put my weightloss on so I can see how many days since I last lost. Even before this stall I would think it had been weeks since I lost and it really was 4 or 5 days. Maybe you are feeling the same way.

You already had the surgery so you owe it to yourself to make the best use of it. Measure all your food so you don't overeat and slow it down. The hardest thing for me sometimes is eating slow enough and small bites. We were eating out a couple days ago and I took a big first bite and swallowed it without a lot of chewing- like the "old" days and man! it messed up my whole meal. I could barely eat at all. I had to take a doggie bag back to the hotel and try again an hour later to get a little more down.

Don't let yourself down. Do your best to get what you need. All food should not be hurting or making you nauseous unless you are eating too big bites, not chewing it really well and eating too much. Some things will- things you aren't ready for yet but not everything. If everything truley makes you feel that bad you need to consult your Dr.

Several of you talk about measuring your food. How do you do that exactly? I am having a hard time knowing how much (protein grams, calories, etc.) that I do eat. If i go out to a restaurant, I just order grilled chicken, cut it in half and take half home with me for later. Sometimes the food is on myfitnesspal and I can get the amounts that way, but sometimes I can't find it or know how many ounces it is. I made homemade chili yesterday and have no idea how to figure the calories and Protein in that. Also, is there a tool to go by when trying to estimate how many ounces a chicken breast is or how many bites of a vegetable equals 1/4 cup?

BTW...I'm a slow loser...18 lbs in 8 weeks :( I wonder if I am getting enough Protein and calories. I try but fail to get my 64 ounces of Water every day.

You can buy a food scale. I got mine from Amazon. Then you can weigh your food. On some, you can put your empty dish in the scale and zero it out so even with the dish, it will say zero. After that, you start adding your food to the dish. 4 ounces is half a cup.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
