alicat3924 0 Posted March 2, 2007 Has anyone noticed large amounts of hairloss post op? If so what has helped stop the hair fall out so much?
shutuplena 0 Posted March 3, 2007 I'm 4 mos postop and I've been losing my hair since last month. ALOT. I just spoke with my surgeon about this the other day and he said that it's completely normal and that once the weight really starts coming off or levels off, the hair will grow back. It's just temporary. So many people say to use Biotin for Hair loss, but after much research and speaking to many people, there's just no proof that it works. Can't hurt to try though. I know how you feel. I'm so afraid I'll be bald in a couple of months.
JJB 2 Posted March 3, 2007 I lost a lot of hair a few months after my surgery. I mean like a whole lot. It would scare me so bad that I would get sick to my stomach whenever I would brush my hair out after a shower. When I quit losing so fast it stopped completely and is now growing back in. But it was very scary because you could see my scalp really bad. But now the thicknss is deffinitly back. I tried Biotin and went and spent lots of money on Vitamins and protien drinks. But nothing helped but time. It will stop and it will grow back. Just give it a couple months. If you look under Hair loss here you will see alot of people that had the same problem. Good luck to you.
TamifromAL 1 Posted March 3, 2007 I started noticing a lot of hair in my shower drain and on my lap while I was blow drying my hair at about 4 months out from surgery. It lasted about a month or so, but now at 6 months out it seems to be back to normal. I didn't lose enough for it to be noticeable, but I have very thick hair naturally. LeeInDe. 0 Posted March 3, 2007 I lost some hair too, and was told it was not getting enough Protein that was doing it. I am trying to be very faithful to the Protein Drinks, and things don't seem as bad.
lianna 3 Posted March 3, 2007 I have heard that the Hair loss is a reaction to the body undergoing surgery and the shock of being put under anesthesia and has nothing to do with Vitamins, Protein, etc... It usually occurs around 3 months after an operation requiring anesthesia, if it is going to happen to you. I dont know if that is accurate, but the theory of Vitamin or protein deficiency causing it doesnt fit, since most people supplement like mad if they develop hair loss. Kat817 19 Posted March 3, 2007 Mine started about 5 months post op and at 9 months out it is still falling out. I have maybe 1/3 the hair I did going into this. I have kept my Protein up the entire time, and when it began I started the bioten---nothing has changed. I take good quality Multi Vitamins.< /strong> I have lost all of my hair before due to chemo, I don't know if that makes me more likely to lose it or not. It is getting VERY noticeable. One thing about it, I can be thin and wear a wig...on the other hand back when I had a head full of hair, I couldn't just wear a skinny suit. Not much of a consolation, but I'm trying to remain positive!!! Worst part is, I am gonna look like a Brittny wanna be!!! Kat
Dori 0 Posted March 3, 2007 My doctor did warn me that Hair loss is one of the 1st indicators that I am not getting enough Protein in my diet. Try increasing your protein.
Kat817 19 Posted March 3, 2007 I have maintained my Protein since prior to surgery. I did this on Atkins too, which is nothing BUT protein. Doesn't affect me. Wish it did, that I could control.... Kat
phlyinphebee 0 Posted March 3, 2007 I am 6 weeks out and have had some hair loss. It seems to have slowed down. I also now take Niacin and Biotin. It can't hurt. Also have started on a volumizine Shampoo and cond. hair spray too to fluff it up some so it does not look as flat. Good luck.
Surby 1 Posted March 3, 2007 You know, I just don't think it could be the shock of surgery and anesthesia because I've had other pretty big surgeries with no Hair loss. I started losing my hair about 4 months out, but it has slowed down a lot. I did start using Nioxin, but I only use it every other day. I use my regular Shampoo the other days. It's a very interesting phenomenon...... but NOT fun!
BabyGotBack 0 Posted March 4, 2007 I went to a chinese herbalist and he gave me a Shampoo with aloe vera and garlic. It does not smell bad and I am not losing hair. I used to lose normally everytime I washed my hair and now am not. I also take very good liquid vitamins and Biotin.< /p>
Miper70 0 Posted March 7, 2007 My Hair loss has been BAD since surgery (almost a year out), so I started on a pre-natal Vitamin along with using Nioxin again. It's been a couple of weeks now and the hair loss seems to have slowed down. If it doesn't, I'll be looking like Britney Spears soon too. I've always had really thick hair and it sucks being able to see my scalp now. The only choice I have if this doesn't work is to shave it off and wear a wig.
