It was over a week post-op for me. I became concerned, so I called my doc and he gave me permission to use Miralax, which did the trick. I've also been surprised by how much smaller my BMs now. (TMI?)

Do you feel like you need to go and can't? I was around 5 days post op before I did. We were told to keep miralax on hand. Less in less out but the anesthesia and narcotics don't help with the process. I had a bad reaction to my Protein Shake on day 5 so I was essentially cleaned out because of that (you are welcome for that) however I did take miralax half doses a couple times in the first few weeks, once I was moved to soft foods at week 2 I've been good to go since.

Thanks for the advice it's very welcome it's just a bit tricky working out aches and pains from the op to wanting to go .. It's not uncomfortable though and hope time will sort things out ..

I get the travel packs that you mix in any amount of Water stir until it disolves and the water is clear. It has no taste at all and seems to work in less than an hour. I don't over use but if I need to I use it. It beats being miserable.

I have been drinking 4 oz hot prune juice in the morning (replaces my coffee) at the suggestion of my nutritionist. It has 90 calories but I prefer it to medication.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
