I haven't made good food choices the last couple days. Thursday I had to work late and had a friend pick my son up from daycare for me. She wanted to meet at a local chinese restrauant so she could get supper for her and her partner. I thought well since I'm here I'll get supper for my family too (I did work late after all). I was all like I'll get this rice noodle dish and only eat a little of the meat and the hubby can have the rest. Well of course I didn't just eat the meat. I didn't eat much but I was miserable afterwards. Then yesterday after picking the kids up I asked my daughter what she wanted for supper and she says pizza. Well I was tired and didnt really want to cook anyway. So pizza it was. I had two tiny bites of crust and scraped the toppings of the rest of it. I felt miserable once again. This morning I step on the scale and I've gained. So, now I have a list of foods I can not have. Chinese and pizza.

I think I will be grilling up some meats this weekend to either freeze or keep in the fridge for the week. As tired as I'm getting of meat i'd rather not feel like that or gain weight again.

It's hard to adjust. I found that my crock pot is my best friend. I can't imagine having older kids. I have a 19 month old... But there are times I just don't want to cook. I'm 3.5 years post op and still eat small amounts and it just doesn't seem worth the effort sometimes. But I do like using the crockpot. And I have found if I cook just twice a week and we just eat leftovers.... I am much happier because I don't have to plan or think about food.< /p>

Surely though with the small amount of pizza and Chinese you say you have had would not result in weight gain ? Just my view .

The weight gain you experienced was probably just Fluid retention, so you haven't really derailed your weight loss efforts. On the other hand, the discomfort you felt was very real. I think it's clear that you've learned from this. And it's not like you sat down and at 3 slices of pizza in the first place -- it sound like you were very moderate in your consumption.

So I wouldn't give this much more thought, except that if you find yourself ordering food lean more toward the healthier choices.

What ItsMe2033 said. The gain is the sodium because pizza and chinese are loaded with it. How far out are you from surgery? But, that being said, some things aren't going to sit well with you no matter what. I'm 6 months out and I can eat thin pizza but only once in a while do I ever do it. I had a small Tai Pei chicken egg roll from the freezer section (no sauce) and it went down fine. But if I had tried that a few months ago it would not have.

Jatherley, I agree with itsMe2033. The weight gain is most likely Fluid retention and the amount you ate was much smaller than what you ate before you had surgery. Eating correctly after surgery is one of my biggest concerns. It is going to take a lot of planning on my part. I have been working a lot of hours lately and have to be prepared. I will need to make sure I have some Protein drinks at work in case I don't get out on time. I come home some evenings and am so tired so I know how cooking can sometimes be a chore. I plan to have items that cook up quickly such as grilled chicken breasts so all I have to do is heat them up. A good idea is to have some hard boiled eggs ready. You can eat them alone, in salad or put into tuna salad. You've got this. You have recognized you are not making good choices and getting back on track. Good luck. I know you can do this.

I think that since you already know you've made bad choices and obviously don't want to, you will get back on track. We all have moments where have done the same choice-wise. I figure the best thing to do is just chalk it up to a weak moment and make the next choice a good one. You cannot undo it, but you can choose the right foods next time. Personally, I think all things in moderation is a good motto to live by. I'm not that far out, but I don't plan to beat myself up in guilt if I eat something that isn't in the "recommended" foods. For me that would lead to me getting so discouraged I would stop trying...I can't do that:)

i have done a few spins on the carb merry-go-round myself. Nothing fixes it until I STOP reset and go back to the basics. Protein, veggies, plenty of fluids... controlled quantities.

For some reason I never think about the crock pot. I know several interesting recipes for use in the crock pot. I'm just no good at planning to do them.

Although my eating habits aren't the greatest I have been doing god stearing clear of carbs such as breads, pasta's and since surgery. My plate is always mostly Protein with a vegi and sometimes a small starch of sorts usually a potato or I've tried corn (hard to chew enough but yummy). I'm experimenting with flavors and preperation. I need variety and plain grilled chicken gets boring. I can not eat more than a few bites and I will admit that at least 2 bites are normally a vegi (I miss vegis) and I usually will have a bite of my starch but that's all I can handle of the starch. I can't sit and eat only Protein either. After about the 4th straight bite I feel like gagging. I need to break it up.aA bite or two protein and then a green bean.

Now at my last Dr visit she told me that I needed more protein calories for my weight loss to pick up. I've been a slow loser. Only in the past 2 weeks have I been able eat without nausea. Which makes me not want to eat at all. A suggestion I got from this forum was to try pumpkin seeds as a snack. Although not as high in protein as I would have liked. I can eat them with no issues. I have wondered though if they are too high in sodium. They are store bought and very salty. And my gain, although annoying was only 0.8 lbs (went from 227.4 to 228.2 how annoying is that?). Now that I stop and think about it. It could very possibly be Fluid retention. Between the pizza, chinese and pumpkin seeds.

I know I can do better. I know I can make better choices. I need to plan better and have meals prepared ahead time for my busy or late week nights. I know all of this. I just have a hard time putting knowledge into practice. I also know that I will continue finding things that I can not tolorate along the way.

I just needed a place to voice my annoyance and have someone understand where I'm coming from. No one really understands unless they have been there.

My family started cooking for the entire week on Sundays months ago. We all go to the store, come home and my son cooks meats and preps sauces etc. while I chop veggies for salAds/snacks. We might have 2 crock pots, a stew pot, and a pan of something going. But by the end of the day my son (he's 11) got to earn a big chunk of his allowance, cook meals for the whole week, AND spend some time (very rare lol) with his mom and dad. I couldn't imagine trying to eat healthy every day without doing this. I don't know about your family, but if yours is anything like mine, it's chaotic quite often.

There are certainly Sundays I don't feel like spending hours at the store and in the kitchen. Then I think about what meal time would be like and know we will likely order at least a couple times during the week and eat at least one frozen dinner that isn't very healthy :/ It has motivated me to get off my rear every time.

But, OP doesn't seem to have derailed yet. I think you'll be alright :)

I use rachel rays meal for a week recipies but alter to make healthier.

I too get sick of leftovers. So I'm working on make totally different things from the night before.

I also liked to make my own "freezer" meals. I bought a ton on tupperware cheap kind & make frozen lunches that I like. Indian paneer & veg, meatloaf & cali mash, beef stew, beef stroganoff, chicken fajitas filling, chicken scampi ( like shrimp but chicken).

Then i dont have leftovers but domething different each meal but microwavable & ready in less than 5 min.

I'm right there with u in the eating not so healthy lately. Were in the middle of moving 800 miles away (MIL just died and were moving in to take care of FIL) so I've been using that as an excuse.

I wish, however, that I would not feel well after eating. The only thing I can't eat is ice cream (gives me major tummy cramps). Haven't tried pizza yet (3 mths out) but I've eaten burgers, fries, chinese, Pasta, sanwiches, u name it I've tried it. All goes down well. I can eat only a tiny portion, thank God.

I told my hubby (who's gained aboit 10 lns due to stress) that once we move (in the moving truck on our way as I type this), were joining a gym and I'm getting serious about losing this last 25 lbs. I'm not gunna say that Ill never eat crap again cuz I will. But I'm gunna make sure its not a staple in my diet.

I've cooked several meals at one time and frozen them before. Some of the best weight loss success I've had was when I was doing that with Weight Watchers recipes. I also started canning. If you've never canned it's a very interesting venture. I wait until something goes on sale and I purchase several pounds and can it. I did 100 lbs of green Beans a few months ago. I have jars of canned green beans with no added salt or preservatives. I have done beef stew, 100 lbs of tomatoes in to different sauces, dices with seasonings and salsa. Makes things easier. I prefer home cooked meals to the meals found in the freezer section. My issue is during the week I simply do not have time to cook a decent meal. I have been thinking about going back to pre-cooking different meals and freeze for an easier week. I need to find more carb friendly recipes to cook.

Greasy foods and anything breads hurt my tummy at first. When family wanted pizza, I had quick food for myself. lunch meat wrapped around string cheese, canned low fat chili, or some rotisserie chicken.

Sorry about your MIL I know that can be stressful. So is moving. I have always found getting off track to be very easy. I would say I've got too much stress or I'm too busy to cook so lets order in or go out for dinner. Then that one meal turns into a week of meals then a month. Before I knew it I had gained another 25lbs. I'm seriously trying to not fall into that this time. I really do have good intentions. For me it's going to be trying to find what works with my schedule and my tummy.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
