Just wanted to introduce myself. I have been checking out the board and really appreciate all the information that everyone is willing to share.

My husband and I are both scheduled for bands, paid for by our insurance- :clap2: ! We live the KC area and are being banded by Dr. Malley. We have both struggled with weight our entire life, but I was unwilling to have an open gastric bypass and still had great concerns about the nutritional deficits even after it could be done laparoscopically. The band seems like the perfect solution to help us acheive our goals. We both know the choices we should be making, but need help with Portion Control.< /p>

It has already been a long journey for us - over a year since our first seminar, but in the end it will be worth it.

I don't have any specific questions right now, just wanted to say HI. I know if I do though someone is out there with an answer! Thanks for all your openness and honesty.

Welcome!

Dr. Malley did my band and he is wonderful. I was just banded 2 weeks ago and things have gone according to plan. Congratulations on your decision and keep us updated on your progress.

Welcome! I've been to Kansas city. It's beautiful, and I love the toy and dollhouse museum.

Good luck with your double banding!!!

thank you everyone for your welcome messages. It is great to have a place where everyone is positive!

Ambrosia - congrats on your recent banding! I hear nothing but wonderful things about Dr. Malley, so I am sure we made the right choice.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
