How is that i see sone people have their surgery lets say 30 to 40 days prior. I thought you get your date, then two weeks liquid diet then surgery. My six months ends at on the 28th of this month. I might have surgery next year January. I was hoping it would of been by December.

From what I've seen, it really depends on your insurance plan and their requirements. Some people are self-pay, that would speed up the process. And each doctor has their own preferred path to surgery.

My insurance requires proof of a six-month doctor supervised diet, but if you have a co-morbidity like high blood pressure or sleep apnea, then you don't have to do the six-month diet.

I did my whole program - 7 day liquid diet, EDG, bloodwork, x-rays, psy eval and surgery in 21 days. My doctor does WLS like he's working a conveyor belt, but he is good!

It depends on your insurance requirements. I didn't have to do a supervised weight loss program. I went to the program on July 17th. Did all the required testing and submitted my paperwork. Got a response back in LESS than 24 hours (Aug 23rd), saw the doctor for my final consult Aug 29th and had surgery Sept 4th. Each insurance is different. GOOD LUCK!!

Yeah my insurance didn't require much either. I started the process Mid August, got approved on Sept 19th and getting my sleeve on the 21st.

A lot of the time is waiting for insurance approval after all requirements are meet. The Drs office has to send all paper work to insurance and some work faster than others. If you have all ducks in a row then it won't take as long.

Adding to the widely variable insurance requirements (or none at all, for those who self-pay) we also have widely variable surgeon's requirements - some want to see some weight loss over a few months prior to surgery, plus pre-op diets that vary from 2-4 weeks to none at all; then there are scheduling considerations where many surgeons are booked for weeks or months ahead, and sometimes cancellations happen where surgery can happen in just a few days after whatever requirements are met.

It also depends on your surgeons calendar...if hes booked when your approval comes in that pushes your date back!
